#1In May of 2009 Joe Lauher acquired a very nice Hiatt nipper with a screw key latch. I had never seen one and wasn't sure of the functionality. Recently I was able to add this nipper to my collection. The screw key works extremely well and opens the latch with ease. Are there any others out there?

Hi Damon,
If I had to take a wild (educated) guess, I'd say the lock is for use as a "combination" cuff & nipper.

My Hiatt has such a strong spring, it is very hard to close.
It does open easily with the screw.

Vince-I had not thought about the possibility of a cuff but it is right on. This cuff/nipper was well used so maybe not as tight as yours Joe.
