Colt Handcuffs Questions

I was looking at my recently-acquired Colt Handcuffs and became curious about a few things, but my research efforts have returned fruitless results. So I was wondering about the following:

1) When did Colt start/stop production of their handcuffs, and why was their production stint so short?

2) Why did they cease production? It's not like their workmanship was substandard and wouldn't be profitable, in fact their quality is just the opposite.

3) Which model was produced first, the "centered keyway" or the "side keyway" design?

Colt never made handcuffs they were made by guardian in the early 1970s if you call colt they will tell you they never made handcuffs because if they did they would still be making them.The first model was the center post.These are regular cuffs and people buy them for stupid money for the name they should be the same price as a guardian handcuff but them people are fools for not calling colt to ask before you pay hundreds for a handcuff that is worth 35-50 dollars That's what they are worth.

Hmmmmm...interesting response.

You're right, people do pay stupid money for Colt Handcuffs that are "highly collectible," especially in the Colt gun collector arena. I remember I saw a pair "mint in box" at the annual Tanner Gun Show several years going for something like $500.00.

So, let me make sure I get the gist of how this all went down...basically Colt SOLD THEIR NAME to GUARDIAN to slap it onto their Guardian/Buchheimer model just like Winchester did years ago for Tactical Steel Products Inc(made in Taiwan), and called it a Model WN-40?

I guess Colt saved a ton of production costs because that's the explanation I got behind why Winchester sold theirs...
