Hi all,

Here are a few records held for handcuffs and related things in the 2014 Guinness Book of Records. Not all records were made this year but the following show up in the most recent edition.

Some of the record setters we know of and some seem more obscure.

Escape artist Zdenek of the Czech Republic hold a record for: Most Handcuffs unlocked in 1 minute. (7) AND 10,625 in 1 hour. He has other records for juggling and arranging a shuffled deck of cards (36.16 seconds).

Note to convention planners: See if you can book him to come next year.

The fastest straitjacket escape while suspended was done by magician Lucas Wilson in 8.4 seconds in Ontario Canada. Too bad it was not Ontario, California at one of the Cannon Conventions.

Thomas Blacke escaped from handcuffs while blindfolded in 3.45 seconds in Massachusetts AND performed the fastest underwater escape from a pair of cuffs in 3.425 seconds on Oct 25, 2011 at the same location.
The write-up did not disclose what model cuffs were used.

Chad Netherland (USA) escaped from a double locked (unknown brand) pair of cuffs in 1.59 seconds in Las Vegas on 1-8-2011

Mike Sanford (USA) escaped from a pair of double locked prisoner transport irons in 1 minute 54.34 seconds in Washington, 10-31-2004.

13 magic tricks were completed in 3 minutes while underwater by Alessandro Politi.

Criss Angel (USA) vanished 100 people on his Mindfreak show in Vegas on 5-26-10.

The world's largest cuff collection was not mentioned nor was Joe Fox for "breaking Houdini's record"

Hi Mark,
Zdenek's record for the most handcuff escapes in a minute was broken on 14th September 2013, by Stuart Burrell. He managed 8 in 54.28 seconds, but got snagged on 9. We are now waiting for Guinness to confirm this, so Zdenek is still officially the holder at the minute.

I do see it in the book and CONGRATULATIONS on your acheivement!
Please contact the organizers of the convention and see what they can do to put you in the program.
Your inclusion would be a memorable addition to the convention even if you were not attempting to break your record.

Steve,
Peter, Lars and Michael in Europe are planning another Handcuff Collectors Convention which will be held in the western side of Germany. Muenster, to be exact is very close to Holland. I assume another trip to Amsterdam will be in order.

There is an announcement here on this site. I believe the dates are still be sorted out.

You may ask any questions on the convention blog and the 3 organizers can assist you with any questions you may have.

I have been twice and it was an unforgettable experience. I hope you can come.

Hi all,

It seems like some marketing for the next European Convention is necessary.

The 5:th European Convention will be held in Münster, Germany - October 3 - 4, 2014. The dates are not
preliminary but firm.

Peter, Michael and myself are now working on the content but I can promise you that it will be a convention
well worth to attend. Unlike the great Cannon's Conventions, which we all loved, this convention is not
focused on escapes but on collecting and history of restraints.

There will also be a focus on the social part of collecting with great food and beverages (read German beer).

We are planning on a few interesting lectures, which I hope we will be able to present here soon.

Now, mark up your calendar and be sure not to miss this great happening in 2014!

10,625 pairs of handcuffs unlocked in an hour.

Hold the presses, something in the state of Denmark isn't quite right here. At the rate of 7 pairs of handcuffs unlocked in a minute, E.A. Zdenek should be able to unlock approximately 420 pairs of handcuffs in an hour. Sounds like a typographical error that escaped from the editor.
