Yet another Slave Collar -- welding marks

this recently sold in the bay. 271284541956

I feel educated so far as the welding marks can't make it pre-civil war. Again, I am no expert in these techniques.

I agreee that this is a total rip off piece of junk.
The seller got $600 for this and he told the truth in one regard and blatently lied in another.
He offered the following in his description:

I put this on when I originally bought it and it does make one cringe. It is a high collar and most uncomfortable. I have a big neck 20", and it was a little tight, but would work on almost any man, or even a woman. However, I suspect that it was fashioned for a specific slave as I've had a few of these come through my hands over the years, but not one this crudely, or heavily made. The curvature in the collar is pretty symmetrical, but that is not that hard for a blacksmith in the pre-civil war to do. <font color="#FF0000">The welds are typical of the blacksmith era of melted steel affixing steel to steel.<font color="#000000">



Yes, it is true that this item will "make one cringe" but only how it relates to the eBay sale and not at the item itself. I would make me cringe at even half the $600 price.
The "blacksmith era welds" spin is just pitiful.

A shame that someone got taken. That is a lot of money to throw away.

About 90% of what he said is a blatant lie in my eyes.

Steel versus wrought iron, since when did they have steel back then?

Electrical welded staples and hinge, they didn't have the means to do it back then

This is not how slave collars of that era where made or designed.

To me this is fraud!

I agree that this is a fake.

BUT, steel DID exist before 1700. Check your Renaissance weapons history.
