Hi I listed a romer handcuff on ebay i learned it is a ian macoll romer I just want to make sure everyone knows this is an Ian macoll romer I tried to change the description but because I listed it through my cell phone I can't change the descption the cuff is still a wonderful piece made by John bushey with exceptional craftsmanship I'm sorry for the error.

It should be removed from eBay and relisted appropriately. Otherwise you are ripping off the innocent and uninformed.

Wait a second,
If the item is an authentic McColl, wouldn't that fact make it much more valuable than an ordinary everyday Romer?

I agree with the other post.
The auction needs to be altered on eBay or removed and relisted.

I never posted an item by mobile device. It seems hard to believe that one can't add other pertinent info to the listing if it was originally done by phone or other device.

I sent the following email through eBay as a question and have hand no response. The seller has not posted it as a question which he should be able to due. With the retractions (there are two), the price has been artificially kept at a high level.

"Having read your input about these cuffs in the Forum I have retracted my bid. Not everyone knows or reads the Forum and one of the retracted bids was a high bid which drove the price to where is is today. In all fairness, since you say the description can not be changed, you should cancel the auction and re list it with the correct information. That would be fair to all bidders and may save you some grief in the future."

I like it for what it is, and at the price. But now the seller is on my banned list.

eBay listings can be altered and questions answered. I guess he just wants to recover what he has invested, but at what price?

It is alleged he bought it from G Brett,
so he is either selling for GB,
or recouping cost because of GB

I waited a week and a half for you with no response Knowing that I was selling my collection because I just had surgery And needed money You told me you didn't have time to get on your computer But in fact oddly enough every day you had time to post your comments on the handcuff forum Meanwhile I'm turning down other potential buyers So if you wanted to be a judge of etiquette judge yourself

For clarification sake I have few questions that obviously you have the right to not answer. Did your purchase the item as an authentic Romer? At the time you put them up for sale were you aware that they were or had a good chance of being reproductions? I only ask because if you were ripped off then please feel free state who screwed you and how it came to be. I've seen even the most knowledgable collectors get hung up on telling the difference between the two when it came to Ian's Romers. In this case it didn't have the the markings that Ian had on his, nor did it have the brass key plate. John made these with some spare parts as a challenge to himself and sold/traded these as reproductions to add to another collection as that collector had or wanted some Ian pieces. Fast forward and here we are. I was high bidder until it was verified that they were made by John and then I retracted my bid. Had a handful of conversations about posting on the forum to let others know and then notify you of the same. In the end, you revised the posting and the price was comparable to what they thought they would sell for so no harm, no foul assuming the winning bidder bought them as such. My post here is irrelevant as I don't have a dog in the fight, but curiosity has gotten the best of me and it appears this would be a good place for you to share the story if you felt the urge to do so.
