hi everyone

this weekend the cuffman was at my home and he bring out the new asp with yellow doubble locks
I've tried to make them open with a smal needle and it works
in less than 1,5 seconds I've the doubble lock open and the cuffs
are we sure that they are nij app.
I'don't feel safe with a prisoner when they use that cuffs
it is so simple to make them open that there is no safety anymore
the only fact is that they have a nice design

Hi Alex

yes I did it inside the keyhole in less of 3 seconds
and yes you can do it via doubble lock hole put the needle into the double lock and pull to un lock
it is easy going
but watch out you can break some inner parts if you use much force

cheers

So i can open them putting the needle into the double lock and pull to un lock? I'll try it on my cuffs (no asp). How i have to insert the needle?
Is it possible only for asp cuffs or also for many other types of cuffs?
Bye

hi

yes it's also posible with other cuffs,
but not as easy as the asp cuffs
the asp it's easy also with doubble locking with a needle
if you do it with other cuffs then you must put the needle like the key to the site were the lock go open en the turn to that side easyly
but not al cuff are so easy you must try it some times
I'm I guy like ian I made also my own keys and some custom made cuffs
and I make broken cuffs like new

Sorry kids, but this is bogus. The author of this thread states that he can disengage the double lock mechanism in asp handcuffs by inserting an object (a needle) in the double lock indicator and pulling using the small hole in the indicator. This is wrong. The double lock indicator disappears when the handcuffs are in double lock mode. So, using the theory that the author is stating as example, you can ENGAGE the double lock mechanism without a key, but you can not DISENGAGE it without the key.

I've tried his theory several times, and the angle is not correct and requires too much play in the indicator so disengage.

The original "red lock indicator" style handcuffs could be unlocked with a knife because the keyway was weak and had a very poor shield. However, the new "yellow lock indicator" version has a stronger shield, an improved key way angle to the lock mechanism, and is thus much more resistant to picking.

I would also like to point out 2 things: 1) no handcuff is pick-proof, and 2) if you leave a suspect with enough time and the necessary devices to pick the lock, you probably don't belong in your career field.

Hi folks,

I was there when Patrick pulled his little trick on those cuffs (they actually were mine) and it did happen as he said. I do believe those were the 'old' red lock type so I'll let him play with the new yellow lock version when we meet again (which should be in about two weeks).

Anyway, with his instructions and my 'two left hands', I was able to disengage the double lock through the keyhole in just a few seconds.

Cheers,

Peter

I just wanted to say thanks to you and several other people that have posted comments about the ASP Cuffs. I work in Housing Authority, and security. I was interested in the cuffs to carry, along with I do collect handcuffs as well. But I am hearing only negs all around. So I will probably not ever obtain a pair of these.

So with that in mind, have you tried that on, say, a pair of Smith & Wesson Model 100's?

Seems to me, any cuff can be picked if you try hard enough.

i have to agree with patrick, the asp cuffs are a joke, now im no lock picker or magician, but it is very easy to pick these locks in the single lock position, i havnt tried the double lock yet but will later, the lock case is so slim and the plastic covering so large around the key hole that you can see the part that moves the ratchet back releasing the swinging bow, its even shiny silver to help you!, these cuffs have way to much plastic in them, and why would you need to replace the lock?, no other cuff makers think this is needed, smith and wesson, peerless, hiatt all way better build quality and way more secure, the hiatts must be the best in terms of picking, not shiming, coz they have three floating ratchets. why didnt asp just save time and money and restamp the american handcuffs co with their new name?, so much easier.

Hi Chris

you have seen the single lock that's correct
if you doubble lock it and look to the other side of the single lock
you can also see the doubble lock
if you press it with the needle you'll see that it moves and the doubble lock is gone then the same with the single lock and you will be free
I agree with you why they not stamp the new name on it
the smith & wesson are more difficult the lockholes are very small
so you must have a thinner needle but then you can't press on it the springs are to haevy

cheers

Hello Chris,

I think Kyoung Chang KCH-701 (aluminium), KCH-703 (stainless steel) and KCH-705 (nickel plated steel) from South-Korea are even saver than Hiatts, because they do not only have 3 floating ratchets, these ratchets are also separated by 2 thin metal plates, so that the cuffs need a key with 3 bits to unlock them.

Actually, even these cuffs with their 3 part pawl can be picked. Pressure is applied downward onto the pawls causing them to act as one as a turning motion is applied. Just thought you'd want to know.

@Clyde: What you're talking about is the case for all Hiatts "3 ratchets" models I know, but NOT for the KCHs mentioned by Petra! In the Kyoung Chang cuffs the 3 ratches are seperated by small metal plates, so the can't act as one and you have to press down all three to open, very difficult withe something not looking like the original key. Can't be easyly shimmed also, as the plates reach up into the bow, I have those myself and consider them to be one of my most secure models, no, to be my most secure model Second would be Ralkem, third the HSS9 (not over all, just talking about my collection).

Regarding the ASPs: indeed, an officier should not leave a cuffed prisioner unattended. But that's no reason to build cuffs which are especially easy to open, I haven't tried the ASPs myself (eventually I'd be interested in the new hinged model though) but it seems they are much easier than the "standard" models from S&W, Hiatts and so on. Those aren't really difficult and there's no reason for a new cuff to be easier to open than those...

Hello Chris,

the keys indeed looks a bit weaker than e.g. standard keys from AHC, especially when considering the three thin key-bits. Nevertheless Cuffsland did not get any customer complaint about a broken Kyoung Chang key so far.
