Some years ago there was handcuffs only nickel plated and black (often called blue finish). But now it seems that all US major handcuffs producers have a lineup of brightly colored handcuffs. The only US and Korea seems to make this kind of kinky handcuffs. Manufacturers explain their purpose very briefly and indistinctly. Does anyone know who is a major consumer of colored handcuffs an who was the first manufacturer?
Here is some information I received and will pass on about the use of colored cuffs.
Many police and sheriff's departments purchase a quantity of handcuffs in a given color, so that when an officer brings a prisoner to a county jail, the officer or his/her department can readily identify their handcuffs by color so that they don't get lost in the processing of numerous prisoners brought in my various law enforcement agencies. In addition some prisoners who will not behave themselves become quite meek if placed in pink handcuffs and offer to be more cooperative if those handcuffs are replaced with ones of another color.
For years Sheriff Joe has used pink cuff and other items in pink here in Arizona.
