I've heard that many of you "smaller restraint collectors" feel somewhat intimidated to attend a convention with some of the "heavy hitter restraint collectors," that your collection will be looked down on, and that you won't be accepted. PLEASE, let me tell you that is absolutely not the case. I will admit that a few years ago, before I attended my first convention, I felt the same way. Why would they want to talk with me about my little collection? Well, after attending my first Indy convention, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this group of "heavy hitters" was one of the warmest, most accepting, friendliest, fun loving group of folks I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. So, for all you "non-attendees" I urge you - no, I challenge you. If you are only a "small collector," if you really care about handcuff collecting, if you have the means and ability, please join us at Indy and meet some of the others who enjoy your same passion. You won't regret it!

Indianapolis is about a 3 1/2 hour drive for me.
Maybe someday I will attend the lock convention but right now financial priorities and the sluggish economy are going to keep me at home.

I too would also love nothing more than to see all the collections and rare pieces that i'll never own myself, and sure i'd like to show my rinky dink collection, but as stated before money is tight, but someday i will get there and my "dream vacation" will have come true. Until then hope everyone has fun and comes away with some new pieces for their collections. Happy hunting.

Some times I had just a few items to take with me, last year I actually had nothing to show.
It is great seeing the people every year, and the exchange of information is very valuable for all.
I look at going as getting a short vacation from my very boring retirement from the military.

Without a doubt the Indy convention played a large role of what convinced me to become an avid collector. It wasnt the cuffs for sale and certainly not the location..but the people, converstations and stories that drew me in. At the tables themselves I didnt buy a single item last year but was still probably my most enjoyable trip. Where I come from I dont have a group of people that I can talk to about old cuffs without getting a blank bored look. At Indy its 48 hours of conversation, friendly disagreements and hearing about back in the old days of which I only get to do once a year. Buying and selling is a small perk for those who are interested but nowhere near the focal point of the convention. So if you got the time and oppurtunity to make it I urge you to jump in the car and come by as I assure you you will have a great time. If nothing else you will get plenty of laughs and meet great people.
