Hi Maxwell--thanks for the response. Yours is not the type of chain I am looking for. The style in my picture was used on dog identification collars made by Hiatt, Froggatt and are also sold as slave id tags. I can remember seeing this type of chain on reproduction mid evil costumes. I'm hoping someone will know a good source.

Hi Ron, the chain is curb chain. found on horse bitts of the same name.

Thanks Ian. Doing a search showed several types of usage and one called English style. This type of chain must have been made in various sizes and diameter of wire for use on lighter loads like dog collars that Hiatt and Froggatt mace.

I can't imagine where you might get that kind of chain these days. That kind of curb chain is double linked (it goes through 2 links on either side) and also came in triple linked. It is very similar to the brass chin straps from firemens helmets and British Busbies. Unless you can find a skilled blacksmith or some old horse chain, it would be very difficult to find or reproduce. Looking at the wear on that chain, it is very old and soft. I sold a couple of those collars to a lady who puts them on her teddy bears! Good luck.

Hi Paul, this chain came from Latvia and is larger than the one I am tring to fix. It did not cost me much and it came with an old key attached which was rusted and I tossed it out. I guess with just patience and luck will I'll be able to find another.
