At the time the cuffs origin was unknown.

Nice find Ian...Outta my price range, but will be a nice addition for someone/museum that has 2K laying around and available to spend at the ready. Do you have any history or production date info on them? I noticed the "thumbscrew" design for the prisoner's wrists.

Hi Kris, I have no idea of the date for these, when JT had a pair for sale, I thought then, that they might have been European - German(?)

The key with two bitts is common to Japanese furniture locks but it's also common to eurppen dungeon irons.

The design of the locking arrangement will be the real clue but i am sure I won't see any good photos of it to make a decision.

It could be a European cuff that made it to Japan.
(it would be nice to be rich)

Primary material is brass? That sure is some rusty brass!

Does anyone know what it says on the front of the wooden box? I don't read Japanese but I think it says something like "Future property of Joshua Ohlmeier"
