#6Subsequent to relocating to Wisconsin, American Munitions soon changed their name to American Handcuff Company so as to avert the wrath of prevalent radical groups such as The Weather Underground.Does anyone know when american munitions moved from Chicago to wis. At some point in the '80s, two guys named Crockett and Kelly began manufacturing the AHC designed cuffs for the Defense Department. They marketed the cuffs under the Crockett and Kelly name to preclude ambiguity with the officially sanctioned AHC product line. Employed as assembly line workers at AM/AHC, neither were equipped for or experienced in the nickel electroplating process, therefore, Crockett and Kelly handcuffs came in a choice of black.

So, the 1980's "Crockett & Kelly" handcuffs had nothing to do with the "Crockett & Kelly Company"?- the world's largest supplier of horse bridles, bits, and spurs?
I honestly don't know, so if what you said is correct, that's quite interesting.

Yes, Crockett & Kelly were originally bridle bit makers. While it is only hearsay, I learned of the connection to AHC from another lock and handcuff collector back in the late '80s. It's entirely unclear at this point if he was referring to one, both, or somebody in their employ that had worked the assembly line at AHC.
In any case, surplus Crockett & Kelly handcuffs and USN marked Harvard leg irons were selling at our flea market for only $5 (no tax), but I don't care for the blackened restraints as they have a tendency to rust easily.
In retrospect, the much older Harvard irons would have been a great investment.
