Insurance for collections

Hello all,

I did a quick search and did not find anything related to this topic. Here's a question for those with large collections and those with small collections. How are the collections insured? Does home owner's insurance cover collections, or is a rider/additional insurance needed? And what insurance companies are involved with the coverages?

This topic really got my mind going.

Not necessarily because I have an extremely large collection of restraints worth some high cash, but more because I do have a formidable magic collection.

I did some research into being able to insure all kinds of "collections," and came across the following website:

I have not read in to the site very much, however, what ive picked up from the available information is that it will cover any kind of a collection you may have.

I'de be itnerested to know if anyone has ever gone with anything like this!

Generally,
most insurance policy's do NOT cover your collectibles, unless you have specifically discussed them with your insurance agent and had them appraised. I had to have my Houdini and Handcuff collection appraised by someone with expertise in the field (fortunately for me, another local qualified), and then for a very nominal fee my collection is insured. Again, your choice, but I insured it for theft and fire. Hope this helps.

Sounds like there might be a couple of hoops to jump through, but it sure could be worth it if you have even a very few thousand dollars invested in a collection of any size. Thanks, P., I'll certainly take a look at the web site you provided.
