I felt great interest in handcuffs when I was at the age of less than 10. The only way I can see handcuffs was on TV and I always want to take a close look at them. It was until I was at the age of 14 or 15 that I can have a chance to take a look at the duty handcuffs of a policeman.
I walked my dog every evening and I always saw a policeman on his patrol. One day when I walked my dog it rained suddenly. The tropical rain was heavy but won't last long. So I went to get shelter in a pavillion in a park. I settled and saw that police ran towards me to get shelter also. It was just 2 of us inside and he broke the ice by complaining this sudden rain. Of course I start the chat with him. He played with my dog for a while and it seems that the rain won't stop for another 10-20 minutes. Then I worked towards my plot of converstaion leading to his handcuffs. I started off by asking some stupid questions on purpose: Sir, will anyone struggle when you tie them up after you catch them? Can they escape during the tie because it may takes a while to tie his hands.
He responded with a laugh saying: we use handcuffs that can restrain him in seconds.
I showed a surprise expression on my face: handcuffs, what is it?
He then unbuckle his pouch and took a pair out and showed me. I touch and feel the cold metal and asked him how it works. He then demonstrate how to snap them onto my wrists and in few second I was cuffed with hands in front. He let me played with it for a few minutes before he unlock them.
I met him a few more times again and there were a few more times that I was able to convince him to take the cuffs out for some demonstration.
A few years later, after getting more information about handcuffs, I found out that his handcuffs was the Hiatt 1970. When I started my collection, the Hiatt 70 is still my favourite handcuffs, not because of the design, is just because of the special "feelings" towards this cuffs.

I can not tell you the first time I encountered handcuffs or the first time I started thinking about them. From first memory, I loved handcuffs. I loved vintage cuffs the most. I was able to go to the Houdini Hall of Fame exibit in Canada back in 1974 or 1975. I got to see some really cool cuffs there!!! And to top it off....HOUDINI himself, owned them, wore them, and escaped from them!!! There was nothing great enough to compare to that. From the very start, I had access to regular types of handcuffs. My Grandfather was a retired deputy and he let me play with his cuffs when I came over. Also, my Great Uncle was active on the force until he passed away, he was a detective. He too let me play with his cuffs when would visit. I also have an uncle who was a state trooper until he became an armed guard at our local nucular power plant. He let me play with his cuffs too, but he was the one who got me my first and second pair of ratchet style handcuffs back in 1987 and then the second pair in 1991. prior to that, I had two or three pairs of cheap star-wheel cuffs that were made in China, my first were a Christmas present back in 1978-?...I do not recall the exact year. The ratchet cuffs were s&w model 70 I think....I still have them, I really need to check on that. The second pair he got for me, in 1991 were s&w model 90. However, I gave the model 90's to a good friend back a couple of years ago. Today I have several pairs of cuffs in my collection along with three straitjackets, a neck collar, and a boatload of locks (both antique and modern, common and unusual) and I am always looking to expand on my collection! I got into it because I was interested in the police. While at the current time I'm not able to join, I've got a number of friends in various forces around the country (isn't the Internet a wonderful thing). From the start I found handcuffs very interesting. When I was a kid a policeman visited my Cub Scout pack and did the usual talk about home security and so forth (listening to it got us our home security badges, if only all of life was this easy). It was fairly inevitable that he'd handcuff someone. I don't remember why, but he did, from what I recall of the boy in question it's possible he just asked to be cuffed. I do remember being fairly disappointed that I didn't get to try them on though.

Anyway, many years later (about five years ago now) an officer I'd been talking to for about a year or so got sick of me asking things and arranged for me to do what the Americans call a ridealong. Since I'd just started University in the city where he works, this was quite convenient. We only got about three hours as he was on some strange shifts due to a court appearance the next day, and I came in towards the end of his shift. Since he was at the time an armed response officer, I couldn't go out when he was on his usual duties, but because of his shift alterations there was another shift's worth of armed officers on so he was out in a normal patrol car.

Well, I say normal, traffic department ones have a bit of kick in the engine

I had asked a fair few questions about handcuffs over the Internet. I'd also asked a fair few questions about everything else. As it turned out, after a while the opportunity presented itself and I asked to have a look at his handcuffs. Sure, he says, you can try them on if you like. He then proceeded to demonstrate how much control he's got over a handcuffed prisoner, convincing me quite firmly that if I should ever get arrested for real, I shouldn't cause any trouble because it'll end up hurting and be completely pointless. These were Hiatt Speedcuffs which are standard issue to most UK police officers and can be characterised by 'bloody uncomfortable'.

Since then I've visited officers in other forces, and one in Germany. I've found the Clejuso chain cuffs my German friend has to be generally more comfortable and I can do more - but with hands cuffed behind and palms out, that's still not very much. Bizarrely, the second time I visited him was also the most uncomfortable time I've had being cuffed. I also know an officer in a force here who issue hinged cuffs, and found them rather interesting as well. Basically I'm now attempting to find out as much as I can about every kind of cuff, to know their advantages and disadvantages, comfort and security, ease of application and so forth. The amount of design work and thought that goes into some of these cuffs is phenomenal and fascinating.

This also leads fairly naturally to the question of how do escapologists do it, how can you open cuffs without a key? I've picked up for myself a set of Hiatts 2010s, and an officer gave me a spare set of Key-cuffs (those being something his force won't miss, shame he can't give me his Speedcuffs!) which are something of a genius invention, although nowhere near as secure. I must admit that I've not yet managed to open the 2010s with a pick, I'm running blind really. I'll figure it out one day though... in the mean time, I'm just learning as much as I can.

I think it is very cool that some are so interested and into collecting these. I can't say that the first few times around handcuffs caught my intrest. I didnt become really interested untill I experienced the erotic potential they have. When given the choice (and what fun is that lol) I actually prefer leather cuffs to the discomfort of metal...of course unless you find the real ones, many metal that are readily available have quick release and again spoil all the fun lol. A good set of metal does offer a delicious measure of sadistic Dominance!

I believe that most of the the people you find here are interested in real or issued ones, not they toy type.

May I recommend the American Handcuff aluminum model - if you can find any - they sold the business last year to ASP you know.

Sara, This is a site mostly for collectors. Yes, we all love handcuffs and the related restraints, but most of us have an admiration for the character and the craftsmanship that these manacles possess. Most of us keep any erotic feelings we may have for these devices off of this forum. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with having an interest in handcuffs when it comes to erotic play, I am just telling you that this is not the forum to talk about such things.
