Juvenile/Small Diameter Handcuffs Info. Request

Hi, I am new to this forum and have some questions for the pros. out there. I have been collecting handcuffs for 30 years and have many brands and types. I was recently given a set of handcuffs from a friend's estate who recently passed away. He was also a collector and obtained the pictured handcuffs recently before his death. They may seem familiar to some but I assure you these are much different than even I am aware of. (much smaller than they look pictured here) These are significantly smaller than most cuffs with a inner diameter on the smallest closure of 33 mm. I have worked in juvenile justice for 16 years and handcuffs that fit small wrists are almost impossible to find, especially this small. I read a note to my friend from the manufacturer which is in China which stated that these small well built cuffs were an experimental design of high quality to see if the market was there for this type of product. The manufacturer stated that 5 prototypes were made and an interest letter was sent to sellers and other manufacturers only to find out there was little interest in smaller juvenile handcuff sets, so the product line was dropped immediately. This set (#0004A) is built extremely well, it is tight with smooth operation, 3 pawls, stronger swivels with stronger links, shim protection and extremely small diameter. (about a 3 year olds wrist size) They are in my opinion, not perfect as some improvements could be made as with anything but I sure would not be afraid to use them on the job. There has been similar products from this company with larger handcuffs of lesser quality in the past but this was their 2nd attempt at a high quality product and 1st attempt at a juvenile handcuffs. I have searched for years for American Handcuff Company jn105 but never have been able to obtain them, due to rarity and cost. First of all it is necessarily to take into account, that sizes are very relative. There is two dimension in the inner cuffs hole, but the shape may be very different. It is possible to measure the inner perimeter but this parameter also is not an ideal due to different shapes of cuffs and wrist.

There is small version of Hagge - Model K. Average minimum opening 47/37 mm and 130 mm in perimeter.
Small size can be found in South Africa Reuteler handcuffs - 47/36 - 125
There is Czech prison women handcuffs with reduced opening.
Tuff-Kuffs 44/39 - 133

There are many discontinued models with small sizes

Code4 is very similar to Chicago 1200. But Chicago 1200 are oversized handcuffs with 54/47 - 155

I've checked my American Handcuff JN105 and it closes down to a minimum of approximately 35mm x 37mm.

I also have an example of the Chubb Escort cuff which, with insert #1 installed, closes to 40mm x 50mm. It's worth noting that a current S&W Model 1 cuff will also close down to similar dimensions.

Clejuso currently manufacture a version (model 101A) of their high security cuff with minimum opening of 30mm x 50mm. This retails at a significant premium over the standard HS cuff; the current price of the 101A in Europe is around 255 euros (check Cuffsland.de)

Alternatively, Zaktool make the #68 Handcuff Helper. This is a clever plastic insert which fits certain cuffs in the S&W, Peerless, Safariland & Chicago ranges. In the case of a S&W M300 cuff, it reduces the internal dimensions to a minimum of around 29mm x 45mm. It has an additional advantage of being wider than the swing arm of the cuff and is therefore less likely to do any physical damage to the wrist when in use. It is also very cheap at around $6.

I had no idea some of these cuffs have such small diameters and thanks for measuring the AHC JN105, always wondered about that one. I sure hope this information helps others too. I have seen this question pop up in other places on the Internet. Appreciate the input! Ken
