I am trying to get any information on an old ball and chain my father found in a field near Flagstaff, AZ in the late 1940s or very early 1950s. I can detect no marks or names, the ball is 24" circumference (12" diameter) and weighs 60 lbs., the chain is 12" long, the leg iron is rusted shut. Looking for any information on whether it is a prisoner ball & chain or something else, and any ideas as to value.

Your ball and chain was made by someone perhaps a jail or prison. A Tower leg iron has been attached to the ball. It does not look like an original Tower Ball and Chain, but it is a interesting item.
