I have a grandmother who loves to collect treasures. She has quite the collection of odds and ends and is in the time of her life where she would like to start purging. Unconnected to the internet and not computer savvy in the least she brought a set of Marlin Daley Bottleneck Model 2 handcuffs, missing the key, to me over the summer. Jessica, you might want to spend a few bucks and get a key for them. I'll bet your money would be well invested, as rare cuffs with keys are usually worth more than those without.

Hi Jessica,

Please post a photo of them as condition is very important regarding to value.

A key is not bad but most Marlin cuffs work properly as they are high quality antique cuffs.
Very reliable and rarely broken.

These cuffs seem to be in very good condition and I'm pretty sure they are in working condition.
However, a working key and proved function would add to the value.

I would say these cuffs are in the $300 - 400 range.

There appears to be a big crack in the left hand side bow. If that is the case, they are only worthy of parts.

There is no crack in them. It is indeed the shading in the picture. Thanks for posting the image for me. Is Ebay the best place to try and sell these? I tried a search for a replacement key to but came up with nothing right now. If anyone locates one please let me know.

EBay is probably the best place to sell these as most people here already have this cuff in their collections.
Fellow collector John Bushey may have keys for these. You can find his contact info by searching here.
Your cuff is a 3rd model as it has the swivel and this was the last model ever made by the firearms manufacturer.
For cleaning, I like to use a nice machine oil and rub it in with a piece of burlap.
It is abrasive enough to get the oxidation off without scratching the plating.

Thanks Jessica for the clarification about the crack, which I saw as a thin black line running half way through the bow - not shading. I was not intending to "dis" your cuff, but I have bid on cracked Marlins before.

A big thank you to Jessica for the Cuffs. They landed on my porch yesterday. I had a key blank that I had purchased in a 'Lot' buy on ebay (I think they were sold by Mark Lyons?). It included a blank for a Marlin. After some careful filing and using the measurements from an old Marlin Key drawing, I now have a fully working pair! Very happy to have added these to my collection. This is my first pair of Marlins.

Hi Jack, if the blanks you are using are Taylor 680, I wouldn't use them.

the Taylor blanks are malleable iron and are prone to breaking.
