Many thanks Asiancuffs, the SuperPTC cuffs safely received. I'll take some pics over the weekend and then post more information here within the next few days.

These are extremely well made cuffs - well-engineered, weighty and with an excellent finish.

The design is innovative and although visually they look rather like the old H&R Super cuffs (and also like many copies of those H&Rs that have been produced over the years) the locking mechanism and the key are entirely unique. One of the "fun" things to do with a pair of the H&R Supers is to hand them to someone and tell them to find the keyhole ..... some do and some don't - but with the Super PTC cuffs there aren't any keyholes - certainly not conventional keyholes.

The keyholes actually consist of 6 small closely spaced holes on each side of each cuff, that is 12 holes on each cuff, a total of 24 holes for the pair of cuffs.

The key consists of 2 parts, joined together by a strong plastic spiral and each part of the key has 6 pins that line up with the small holes on the cuff. It should be noted that the pins are of different lengths. Both parts of the key have to be inserted into the 6 respective holes on each side of the cuff at the same time.
However, initially the cuffs are applied in exactly the same way as conventional swing-through cuffs and adjusted for an appropriate fit on the wrists. The actions of both double-locking and subsequent unlocking of the cuffs both require the use of the 2-part key in conjunction with operation of the small ridged slider that is located underneath each cuff between the two sets of holes. These two operations of double-locking and subsequently unlocking the cuffs are fairly complicated - although easy when you know how!

This is Chris Gower (with Weasel Dandaw in the background but out-of-shot) helping me to figure out how these superb Super PTC cuffs work - at this time I was doing the easy bit, acting as photographer. And yes, before you ask, the photo was taken in a pub in the south of England.

And finally, my sincere thanks to Asiancuffs who sent me these beauties - thank you my friend.

It was great to be able to see these cuffs last week, their mechanism is unique and are the only handcuffs made that do require two keys to be inserted at the same time to open them. It is just a pity that the two keys are also needed to double lock them. The key had six pins on it and is symmetrical and there appears to be just two different heights, this would give a combination of 8 different keys with 6 that are usable (ie the two combinations where all the pins are the same).
In my mind even given the keys and handcuffed with the palms facing outward, escape would be impossible, unless someone knows better!!
Thanks Mike for taking the effort in driving 250 miles to see me last week and allowing me to see the cuffs. As you say the answer to the question about availability etc. is 'I do not know'

Glad that 3 experts examine the cuffs and provide reviews.
I am contacting the supplier and see if I can get some more for fellow collectors. You will be looking at US$90-95 per pair (including postage, depends on your location).
For your advance information, the manufacturer is working on improving the design of the double lock that don't need to insert the keys to engage it. Furthermore, they are also improving the level of security to have 3 teeth lengths which will increase the combination to ?? (I am not good at arithmetic)

Sounds a good plan that the manufacturers are trying to modify the double locking method and increase the number of pins. If they increase the number to 3 heights that would give 27 possible combinations with 24 usable.
Can you put me down for a pair if you can get some more. Thanks, Chris

A fascinating design.
From a practicality standpoint, though, I could see it go the way of the S&W model 94.

Hi Howard,

It has been too long !!

I would also be interested in a pair and as always, if you have several US collectors who want a pair, they can all come to me where I can send them out to save some time, trouble, and money.

Thanks. Hope all is well.

They also made a Legiron that needs the two keys to open then. Photo attached of the Combination Set in my collection - think this is the only one in private hands.
I think I have a set of the cuffs spare but would rather trade for them rather than sell. Does anyone here have the Chinese H&R type cuffs with the keyway on the side?

Thanks everyone for the interest, been a bit surprised by the response to be honest. Bear with me, they're at my storage locker, I'm not exactly sure how many I have there, I purchased these quite a while ago and have been there ever since. I'll get back to folks on a first contact basis. I'm not much of a seller and have a ridiculously busy life so going to the post office is not something that gets priority, but I won't accept any money until I have them 'in hand' from storage and I'm ready to ship. Thanks. Oh, and I am in the USA, so shipping costs would be from USA.

Might now have the only one in California....don't know.
An interesting cuff that may be unique in a few ways.
While some cuffs require 2 keys to open or deadlock them, this pair need 2 identical keys at the same time to perform either function.
The keys go on both sides into 6 pin holes and are squeezed together to allow the slide to lock or unlock.

It may take 2 hands to press the keys inward while sliding the lock tab up or down.
These may be the most Mike Griffin proof cuff out there.

The keys are symmetrical, so it does not matter if they are inserted in the correct position.

A couple of negative factors"

The ring appears to be made of brittle plastic and if used in the wild, they certainly are at risk of breaking.
The other bad thing is if the ring gets locked onto the cuff.  If this were to happen, one would need to obtain extra keys to release it....or break it off.

Thank you James,  I suspect you will be pleased with the cuff I sent you in trade.

They are a very unique cuff indeed. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to work mine, and how to double lock them. Very happy to have these in my collection and very happy that Richard Knips helped me acquire my set. Ron J

Keep an eye out when thinning out for anything non-standard keys and/or high security and I’m likely going to be interested. (Super PTCs I have :) )

I got the Cuffs. They're super cool Cuffs. Ronald, thank you very much for them. I'll get back to you with other handcuffs soon. I have to refresh my budget before my wife will give me a death penalty. I've been trying to fabricate or dublicate a couple of sets of keys. The original keys aren't heavy duty. Also, I'm afraid of to loose them or break them. It's going to be a super difficult task to open cuffs without the keys. I'd like to make the keys from a single solid piece of metal . Maybe from a stainless steel or a hardened steel, but it will be a pain. The easiest option is to make from brass parts and then braze all parts together.

I never cared for the keys on the cuffs, they seem very cheap. Making a duplicate set I think would be possible but not easy. Ron J

Hello there and Finally. I have fabricated the set of the heavy duty keys. I could say it was a Super BDSM time, but it was kinda close to it. The handcuffs are very, very super sensitive to links of the pins. My handmade keys work even better than the original set.
Ian McColl 25 Jan 2025

What a brilliant achivement and so quick. May I ask what metal you used for the base?
StanfromWA 25 Jan 2025
#42
I'm assuming that's the stainless steel, but it's not the highest grade. It's a lighty magnetic stainless. I just took some objects and some scrap things from my garage junkyard. The easiest option was a brass rod or a brass bar or even a 4 AWG-6 AWG solid copper conductor with a 12 AWG electrical wire for pins. Plus a regular plumbing flux and a regular plumbing solder would go over. I've made the decision to get that overcomplicated with the stainless steel. Also, i discovered a metal itself doesn't affect the functionality of the keys. Just handcuffs are very sensitive to links of the pins.
Ian McColl 25 Jan 2025
#43
I over complicted it in my mind. I thought you has cast the block around the pins. Hats off to your skills.
StanfromWA 25 Jan 2025
#44
Thank you. I thought about my painless and quickest option with the project. Which could be to make L share pins from a copper or a brass wire, solder them together and cast an Epoxy resin over them.
Ian McColl 25 Jan 2025

Impressive work, not even any solder appears.  Sorry , but I had to enlarge it and take a closer look.

How are you able to hold the keys you’ve made when trying to use them? Ron J
StanfromWA 25 Jan 2025

I put small pieces of a low temperature flaxed solder inside holes. Next, I naied all pins deep and hard inside . Then, I wraped the keys with a piece of foil to protect the shiny surface and I baked them to a minimum required temperature to melt the solder. There were some flux and some residue, but some sort wire brashes and little bit of polishing took care of that.

Oooo, I do it very easy with a huge smile on my face. They're faaaaaaar better and faaaaaaar more durable than the original set.
There's one more thing about them. No one can aline and drill perfect holes by hand tools . My holes are super close to be perfect, but they're slightly off. Plugged keys will stay in and let me use the switch bar to unlock or double lock the Cuffs. Then, I just slightly pull them out. That's the coolest thing which I got as a gift for my fabrication time.
Ian McColl 25 Jan 2025

You may not have made it overly complicated (in your opinion) but you have put a huge amount of thought into this. I would not have thought to wrap the piece and only bring it to the right temp.  Is the base piece a rod or profiled with a curve on each side (refraction in the photo makes it looked profiled)
StanfromWA 25 Jan 2025
#50
It was just a rod.
StanfromWA 25 Jan 2025

At least, I got a lot of fun with that. I like to do some custom made stuff. With a profiled piece it would be much easier to work, but I didn't get any.

I had a couple of projects in the past. One of the project was to create the world heaviest duty key for my H&R handcuffs. The main reason of that. I've gotten 3 pairs of them. They were very heavy rusted inside. An ultrasonic bath, a penetration oil and a heat gun were useless. I to unjam the mechanics I should move them anyhow . Of course I've broke the original keys. With my knowledge of metal fabrication , a hand drill and my kitchen stove I've created the world heaviest duty keys from a tool steel. I spent maybe an hour or so. With my key you can break off cuffs instead of the key.
The second project was to replace the spring in my Harvard lock company handcuffs. Ive fabricated the replacement spring from a paper clip. Basically an hour and a half of my time. I can post some info and some pictures right in here.

Convert a piece of This to a very good spring. Only one, but a super important thing. Do No Use any of dremels or any of electrical tools. If you heat that type of steel it won't be a spring steel anymore forever. It's a cheaply made cold roled type of spring steel. Not a heat treated one. Only Hand Tools.

Thanks Stanfrom WA.it good to see another who enjoys collecting and can do things with them to enhance the cuffs and their knowledge base. Most can on buy and obtain and do nothing more than maybe bang a nail in a wall to hang them on.
