Unknown Darby #4 (and #5)

And even more unknown Darbies. These two examples are similar to a Darby Joe shows in his collection, but they have much more locking positions (9). Both pieces are of not the best quality, because the sides are not identical and nearly all plating got lost. The keys do not seem to be originals, because they can't be screwed in completely and you must pull on the key to unlock the cuff. The seller got them from a Dutch dealer who said that they were used in the former Dutch colonies. Any ideas?

Hi Patrick,

you're right. Ron's LIPs are indeed very similar (do you know how many locking positions they have?). The ball is a bid different and the overall quality of Ron's piece seems to be a bit better (e.g. stronger connection between swivel and bows). I guess that my pieces are about 1 to 3 decades older than Ron's.

I do not know how many locking positiond they have
but I know for sure that they lips
I.ve been on the factory of lips
I don't know if they are stronger on the chain but ron's cuffs are well made
I've seen them and hold them in my hands
ron got an original key and the springs are strong
I see ron next weekend and I will ask him to answer your questions

There are eight locking positions on my Ball Darby handcuffs which I believe were made by the Lips company. And indeed the connections on my cuffs seems to be of better quality.
