recently found this strange set on the recent auctions page from December 2015:

marked "Ford & Gable(?)", and 1873. They seem to have a snap-shut mechanism.
Can anyone shed some light on these, maybe the buyer? Some close-ups would be great.

Now, please don't get mad about me but I believe these are horse hobbles and not restraints as no key is required.
It's a nice item anyway. And certainly old.
