Dear fellow collectors,

In October 2014 Michael Busch, Peter Pensaert and myself arranged the European Convention in Münster. It was a great convention and we all had lots of fun. As the convention was held in Münster, which is in Michael’s area, he had to put lots of work in all preparations like negotiating hotel fees, fixing a suitable convention room, handling registrations and payments etc. This work is more time consuming than anyone may think and you need to have time for it. Peter and myself had the easy part of the work compared to Michael.

Some of you are probably expecting an European Convention in fall this year. The problem is that Michael is extremely busy at work as he is self employed. His days are long and he also has a family to take care of. Therefore we unfortunately have come to a decision that we will not be able to make the convention this year but hopefully another year.

If any of you feel like organizing the next European Convention, we will be happy to give any assistance we can, just let us know.

I might consider hosting it. I really enjoyed putting a couple of faces to names last year in Munster.

It would be in the Munich area. Since I live 15 minutes from the airport, I guess I could run a couple of numbers and see what the cost would be. We have regular collectors' meetings at our house, so I guess I'd enjoy planning the thing.

Who would be interested? I understand if once a year is too often for many foreign collectors. If there's more than 15 people interested, I'd look into it.

Rough idea: September 2016, Munich area, BBQ and Beergarden.
Not sure we'd have many lectures (if you have one to offer, bring it on!).

Nils, I would definitely be interested in attending a convention or meeting later this year. I would be happy to give a talk on possibly unusual and rare UK handcuffs. Munich sounds a good location. Let me know if I can do anything to help out.

September 3 or 10 (Sat) would be a possibility. A hotel and convention center is about 2 miles away (Dolce Unterschleissheim).

A night seems to be around 90 Euros, the meeting room appears to be some 73 Euros per person per day (that would include drinks, lunch, projector etc.). I will call them and check about discounts.

So far, only some 6 people have expressed interest. We could host an evening BBQ in our garden, I suppose, for up to 12-14 people. We are about 15 minutes from Munich airport.

On Sunday, we could possibly take a trip to the Medieval Jail in Nuremberg (about 90 minutes away).

Nils thanks for the update, seems that there has only been a limited response of collectors etc. that are interested in attending and I would think you would need at least 15 to attend to hire out a venue. The BBQ sounds a great idea and I would be more than happy for you to host it at your place on either of the dates you suggested.

I checked with the hotel, they can only do the 3rd of September weekend. Please drop me an email if seriously interested, if I don't know from here already. I haven't heard from many other German collectors. Interested? Josh?

So far, I have 8-9 people who expressed interest. Please send an me e-mail until June 4th 2016 so I can determine whether there are enough people to actually run a convention. Please also let me know if you'd like to use the hotel / convention center.

This is a shame.
It would actually be even worse (for me) if you were to announce that the convention was to take place.
Being such a late notice, it would have been very unlikely that I could have made the proper reservations.
I would be very disappointed in missing the opportunity of attending.

I would be very interested in attending the next one should one be planned.
Please keep in mind that, for me, I would need at least 6 months advance notice so that I could plan a side trip before or after the event.

Thank you very much for trying to put this together. It certainly would have been a fantastic time seeing you, all the guys and the Strange Germans again. Especially Stefanie and Petra.
