Unknown Froggatt Handcuffs

Hello,
at first sorry for my bad School english I'm a collector from Germany and have bought a pair of Darby handcuffs in january. After a few days I read the letters right - FROGGATT. Some letters are not so good to read. I don't have seen cuffs with so big rings before. Who can help me and can tell me how old the cuffs are and why the rings are so big? The key is not original.

The Cuffs could be mid to late 1800's but the rings have been welded on much later. You can also see on the left cuff there is a flat spot where the bow once bulged out but it has been filed off when smoothing around the weld.
