Hi. Out of intrest how long did police in usa keep cuffs on duty in early 20th centry. Was there like a limit on the years they could use them. Basicly i have some peerless mod1 so if they was first used say 1913 would they have them still in say 1930.
I worked in a state prison for almost 30 years. Handcuffs were the No.1 tool of the trade. Some correctional officers would apply, and remove handcuffs up to two or three hundred times a day. When you were issued a pair of cuffs you pulled on them, set the double lock and try to push it off, and Inspected them for damage. If they looked like they could still do the job, they would stay in service. If you yanked on them and they pulled apart, because the hole where the chain attached, galled out big enough to fail, you got a new pair. In positions where the cuffs were carried, but rairely used or even never applied. Those cuffs could have been in service for 50 years or more! The main thing that would matter would be key continuity through the years. So to answer your question I give you a resounding YES! I hope this helps.
