What are some methods of making a precise 0.3mm cut in a handcuff key's bit/blade/flag etc? I know you can get a dremel tool but they are expensive and I cannot even find 0.3mm metal cutting discs in the UK Amazon or eBay.

So if you know of other techniques for just an average joe like myself to make the cut? The cut is depicted on this image:

It is absolutely not necessary to make 0.3 mm cut. 0.7 mm also works fine. 0.3 mm may be cut off by a diamond cutting disk but it very hard to find such disk. Also it is easy to make this cut by spark erosion machine but it is not for home.
I have S&W key with 0.7 mm slit which works fine with Yuil, but not with ASP Hi-sec

The key, as made following the specs of the image, work with yuil and ASP as well as a whole load of others. There is a whole documentary or conference or what ever on youtube all about this key.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHpwAYTY6NE

I know that silicon wafers for solar cells are cut with 0,18 mm diamond wire saws. Maybe you could try to find such a wire for small cuts.

And these discs for miniature drills are not useful ? 0,1 mm thick.

The 0.1mm saws are too thin, it would be a nightmare to try and cut a 0.3mm slit with those. I am trying to find a wire saw 0.3mm thin but so far not having much luck.

It's only a ward cut! It
doesn't have to be that accurate. mini hack would do but hammer the blade flat to get rid of the kerf.

dremel are the skilless persons tool.

Well TOOOL said you need to be accurate to within a 10th of a millimetre.

Unfortunately the accuracy 0.1 mm is hard to reach by hand tools. So if you need a such tolerances you must use EDM machine to fine tune a key, or lathe and milling machine to make a fully custom key. It is possible and not difficult but not for home

I have callipers with accuracy to 0.02mm but the kicker would be a) being able to make a 0.3mm cut with some kind of thing (looks more and more unlikely) b) position the cut exactly center of the key flag. Just depressing. I can find nobody who makes and sells them. I cannot allow myself to buy nice Yuil or certain ASP cuffs unless I can get universal keys such as this, which work in almost everything that takes this basic form-factor of key. Literally, that key, when made correctly fits almost all standard cuffs as well as almost all split flag higher security cuffs.

Why not just buy an ASP "High-Security" key? They are similar in dimension to the "TOOOL Universal Handcuff Key."

These keys are not freely available, at least in DHW :http://www.handcuffwarehouse.com/ASP-Hi ... y-Key.html

But grooving a standard ASP key with a small metal saw works !

Unfortunately, cutting a normal ASP key will likely not work.

The standard ASP key won't work for cutting a, "high security key," mainly because the flag length is not long enough, as well as the 2 pawl key not having the back set key flag.

The ASP 2 pawl keys are available through other outlets.

I am not sure why Handcuff Warehouse has the key restricted, while every other outlet that I have come across has no such restriction. On an interesting note, you can seemingly buy the ASP LockWrite Handcuff Key Pen in the (blue) two pawl design from Handcuff Warehouse without, "a letter on agency letterhead stating that they are for official use," if you are willing to spend $28.

BTW. I am not sure that 0.3 mm cut will works on ASP Hi-sec. The original key cut is much larger

Bigger cuts are less compatible, like the ASP key it has a bit bigger than 0.3mm and it won't open yuil. I won't buy such a split key cuff unless I have spare universal keys which will also open them. I ordered a AHK3 key as a last resort, since I seem to find no way of making a 0.3mm cut.

When you receive your AHK3 key, would you mind posting the measurements of it, similar to the TOOOL diagram?

It would be interesting to know the differences.

One thing that the TOOOL diagram misses is the flag thickness. We can only assume that it is the thickness of the standard Smith & Wesson key.

I will be able to provide measurements as I have accurate 0.02mm callipers. I bought from a different site but here is an image: ?c=2

"The Advanced Handcuff Key 3 (AHK3) is designed to open handcuffs that use alternative security features such as key blocking blades and large keyhole pins. The AHK3 can be paired with a safety pin to assist with turning leverage when opening handcuffs.

Coated Stainless Steel
Compatible With High-Security Handcuffs (Russian BRS, German Clejuso, Korean Yuil)"

Here is from another page which also mentions ASP high security:

"AHK3 (Advanced Handcuff Key)
The AHK3 is the result of end user feedback and subsequent research & design.
The AHK3 features a full depth slit that divides the key flag into two parts allowing it to bypass the security plate on ASP Model 100 handcuffs. Without the full depth slit the handcuff key would be blocked from turning in the keyway. The ASP Model 100 also have security features that make shimming difficult.
Unlike the original ASP handcuff key the AHK3 will work with Russian BRS, German Clejuso, Korean Yuil and other handcuffs that share a similar keyway design."

I'm a DIY kind of guy for some things. I was so hoping to take S&W keys and make my own such key based on TOOOL's spec. SO disappointed with myself for not being able to track everything down to pull off the project fully. Still, having a highly compatible albeit non-high-security key is still useful I suppose.

I made a reply just at the end of page 1, in case you missed it.

I have made an estimation based on pixel-based calculations upon average outer diameter to estimate what the measurements MAY be somewhat like on the AHK3 key. I will document these here for future comparison when I actually get the real key and make my own precise measurements to see how close I got it:

GRAPHICALLY ESTIMATED AHK3 spec (Not actual measurements)
Inner Diameter (hole) ?? mm
Outer Diameter (rod thickness) 3.68 mm
Key Blade Rise (rod base-blade tip) 5.55 mm
Key Blade Width 3.16 mm with central gap of 1.0mm

If these estimationg are even remotely accurate which they likely are somewhat, that is a big gap... bigger than I expected, yet works with ASP high sec and yuil and others. Mind boggling.

Here is the raw image I used to make my rough calculations:https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t3 ... 1887_o.jpg

Here is a screen shot I took of, "NIJ Standard 1001.00 - 3.2.37"

This is only for reference, as it might help us communicate the same name/s for the dimension/s in the most effective manner.

Seems TOOOL measures "key-blade rise" from the base of the shaft all the way to the top of the flag, instead of measuring the actual width of the flag it's self.

Still that is a very useful graphic you provided. Thanks.

I had cut two universal "no-name" keys (no ASP, sorry) in order to split the flag, with a small saw, and it works, even double-locked, on the four holes of my ASP-200 ! Just tested again before to write this message. And it's not a work of precision : if the split is not centered, it's just a little more difficult to open, but feasible.

Sasha,

Be sure to address all of your concerns about the Universal Handcuff Key's universality (or lack thereof) to Deviant Ollam at deviant@deviating.net preferably with the subject line, "***PLEASE UPDATE THE MEASUREMENTS***."

We are recreating something that has already been made here, not creating something new.

He said 0.3mm is the minimum cut width. I made one that is almost 1mm and he said it looks great. I am unaware if this "ultimate" key will fit the new Yuil.
