The Wisner inventory

Some of us have the Wisner cuffs in our collections.

My set once came from Stan Willis when he sold his collection.

Is there anyone keeping a record of the cuffs known? Ron Spitz told me that you John
might have a list. Is that so?

Hi Lars,
Yes, I have a list of the 13 known Wisner handcuffs, and a ton of info on James Wisner, and some on Monson Hoyt.
I have a Wisner, and also the patent model with original patent tag. Monson Hoyt was a jeweler who advertised custom jewelry and also advertise patent models. I was hoping to prove he made the patent model for James Wisner and therefore
got his name on the patent. So far, I have been unable top prove this.

Hi John,

Thank you very much for the information and for your research work!

I very much would like to take part of of your research and the inventory. As I understand, several of the known Wisner
are not in working condition. We both know the construction is inferior. It's not hard to believe the Wisner was not a commercial success.

When I bought my cuffs from Stan, I come to realize only one spring one each side was working properly as the tiny tips were broken on the other two.

As a perfectionist, these flaws made me really annoyed. - Especially on such a rare and expensive cuff. I finally decided to let Bob Dix have the problem fixed.
Bob is likely the most skilful person on earth when it comes to repair of antique handcuffs and padlocks. He had the springs replaced. As usual on Bob's work, the repair can't be seen.

Now the cuffs work perfectly. I store them in the unlocked position to save the springs and not to put unneccerasily tention to them.

By the way, the original springs are "branded", I have attached a photo.

were the cuffs that shiny for something so old?? if they have been cleaned and repaired, then they have decreased in value.
