I have a pair of TCH800 chain cuffs and they explicitly state nickel plated, they are shiny as hell, especially when I clean and buff them up with some wax. Same as my peerless 700, bright and shiny and smooth. But my TCH842 (same as TCH840 just with 2 extra key holes) look somewhat dull, even after lots of cleaning and wax polishing. They look more like the rotating arms on my Smith & Wesson M100-1 WeatherShield (yellow). I believe those S&W are steel if I am not mistaken. So are the TCH840/TCH842 made from steel? Something else?

Hmm strange. I am used to nickel being almost mirror finish. I wonder what the benefit is? Do you know what the black ones are made from? Is that an oxide coating that requires oiling frequently?
