I believe that the reference was made to the indention that is circled in black on the lefthand cuff. Its purpose is to trap the swing through arm and keep the teeth in contact with the cuff's locking pawl in the event of the swing through arm being cut. Used on "ditched jaw" handcuffs. Ah don't worry about it. It is only part of the ditched jaw functionality. Which is of limited usefulness in my opinion.
