Anybody know of a website forum or anybody on here that sells hiatt darby keys in the uk or that can be posted for a reasonable price many thanks martin

Hi Martin.
They are very hard to come by and there are multiple different thread variations, so you will never know if a key you buy will fit. The key size, length and thread vary. Paul

Dam i thought this may be the case but was hopeing they only did like 5 diffrent threads. So keys are a no then how about making one maybe out of like copper pipe or brake pipe or somthing can this kind of thing be done. Must be away of opening them i just dont know how so any help on that matter would be muchly appreciated. Thanks

I have in my kit about 16 different taps for English , German and US darbies.

I do have a test set of threaded tubes and from these I can use the known thread to make a key but with postage costs so high now it becomes expensive to send the testing tubes , have them return, make the key and then post it.

Yeah more than likely cost more than the cuffs did. Shame its not in hd lol but i get the drift. I did try with string with no luck and i also tried with some long nose pliers but the spring os very srong and just cant get enough pull before the pliers slip off. Thank you for the reply

I hope this helps. This plastic toggle is a temporary way to open Darby cuffs without damaging the threading (like opening them with plyers, mentioned above). It's smooth on the inside and when you twist it around the threads it leaves a perfect impression. Then you just tug on the toggle and they open. I've used them before to open cuffs without a key.

I'm not sure, so you would have to ask Ian first, but maybe this impression could help him in making the proper key for you. "If it's possible", it sounds like a cheaper alternative then mailing a package of test blanks back and forth. And if it won't help in making a key, at least you can open your cuffs without damaging the threads with plyers.

Hi Martin, the cuff is older style and nice looking.

If you can work out the OD of the locking bolt and the TPI I might be able to help but you have to be fairly accurate.
(Guessing is only really good if you are right he first time.)
