Why is a 5 year old question designed to obtain more and more information without knowing what you want to know. So there's my 6 cents worth of knowledge for you.

how hard is it to say why you would want to know if one is stronger or weaker than the other and from the answer where is this 'knowledge' going to take your thinking??

Haha I just like drawing attention to ambiguity. People say things and assume everyone else is thinking the same thing as them. Assumptions are always subjective.

I would have thought the question might have been backed up with a little history to explain why some would even want or need to know.

I would like to know which has the weaker spring because I use a key or tool in my mouth to open the cuff on my wrist. Knowing which was weaker would be of benefit to me.

know the question of why would seem more appropriate don't you think.

It takes a pull of about 15 PSI to open a hiatt , hows that compare to KUB.

Okay, here's your "why":
I want to use them for escape work, but I don't want my volunteers to pinch their fingers trying to close them. Weaker springs make that kind of accident less likely.
Kub darbies have pinned caps, so replacing springs would be a hassle and mar the finish.

So, anyone have an answer?

teach your volunteer how to close them before they do it. You lock one side and they lock the other. Monkey see monkey do.

The KUG darby I have is key lockable, not snap lock like Hiatt. I haven't got any newer KUB so i don't know if they have a snap lock version

As well as many other KUB handcuffs (e.g. Irish 8) and leg irons.

And IMHO the springs are strong.
