To this day TCH still make the chain version, they make hinged versions, rigid versions and folding rigid versions, along with other non-handcuff gear that I won't talk about here.
Are there any current day UK police that use either their chain or hinged versions? Do the police use those as backup/additional handcuffs or anything? Do they have anything to do with those two model types?
I am trying to figure out why TCH would keep making those two types when, what I imagine to be their biggest buyer (police), only use rigid and folding rigid (unless I am wrong in this assumption, thus my post to help me and others understand if they do have uses for chain or hinged).

HMP uses chained ones so they would buy enough to justify keeping that line going. As for folding hinge im not sure i guess someone must use them to keep them in production but cant say i have seen any in use. MOD also use chained version i think.

Wow, I assumed the chain version were obsolete as far as governmental-type of institutions like police/military/prisons etc. That is really interesting. I guess if someone is in prison, they are already under control and limited as far as where they can run to, what they can do etc so they don't likely need the pain inflicting and extra limitations of rigid. Really interesting, I had not considered that. So the UK prisons use TCH800 ?
