I would like to see love handcuffs become a thing. Maybe old handcuffs you want to throw out in the trash, maybe even unbranded ones. Inscribe those and then find an out of the way place to lock them and of course for safety reasons double lock them as well. It would be more of a statement than the classic love lock phenomenon. Long as its out the way its doubtful the city would remove them as long as they pose no threat. Interesting concept. However anyone with a key could do the irresponsible thing of disengaging the double lock on one of the cuffs and leaving it open. A kid could put their hand in and close it thinking nothing of it and then find that they cannot get their hand out. I think the lock idea is kind of cool and 100 times safer than having "love handcuffs" as you put it. I get where you are coming from, it's a nice idea but I just don't think it's as safe, unless you superglue the locking mechanism to freeze the double lock in place and prevent someone using a key. But then you run into legal issues I would think because if you cannot use a key, cannot pick them then you have taken snapping a lock on one step too far. But maybe that's just my opinion. I will be interested in what others think.

Drill a small hole through the cuff that would gum up the works, like one that fits through the body and then into the arm or the double lock mechanism. The shot a simple pop rivet through it or hammer in a traditional one.

I can't help but feel that if you completely disable all capability to remove the handcuffs with a key, that it's far worse for you in terms of legality? At least a police officer or government person could remove them if they really were required to. But if you take away that ability then it's like you defaced on purpose something and made it as difficult as possible to remove.

Like graffitiing a wall and then varnishing over the top to stop the wiping/cleaning of it off, forcing more aggressive and time consuming, money costing techniques. Someone can pick a lock, cuff keys are almost universal.

Just as "love locks" are a terrible idea, this is an even more terrible idea. Who wants to see all these locks hooked to bridges and fences? It's annoying and selfish, just as spray painting your (and your loved one's) name under a bridge.

The lock manufacturers must be rubbing their hands together. But it's also, to me, embarrassing first-world behaviour to take a perfectly good lock, put it on public property and let it go to waste, just to be cut away a few months later and then thrown away.

I think it's a neat idea although if you get too many people doing it, it would get a bit much I have to admit, in terms of what I think other people could handle. I wouldn't bother personally. Big difference between having to redecorate a bridge vs cut some locks off with nothing damaged.
