Very simple, if you think about it. A difference in design, if they are both HIATT, could mean the difference between buying something worth more or less than you pay for it, be worth more in time. Maybe it was a limited run and worth something? All I know is they are all marked as HIATT. You are right there are two patterns that Hiatt made for their Speedcuffs. I can not recall which order they were made in but I think you will find the answer in Alex Nichols books. SBD I would highly recommend these books to you, they contain a wealth of information especially relating to English handcuffs and Hiatt. I think Alex still has a few copies available at £25 each. Upon further thought, my guess would be that the fully uniform height would be the older and the one with the teardrop protrusions are the newer design. Even TCH has a one-sided protrusion on that area, although no longer is tear-drop shaped.
