History on Prusik Knot handcuffs?

I would like to track back what the earliest uses of the Prusik Knot is in terms of using as a handcuff or restraint. Is it a purely very modern times thing? Does it date back far at all? Obviously rope in general has been used as handcuffs but I am mainly curious about specifically Prusik Knot varieties of cord-based handcuffs.
