Unknown Double Darby from the UK

Dear friends,

recently found this strange double darby type handcuff in the UK. It didn't come with a key, but one from a (non-regular) darby fit.

Has anyone seen this type before? There is a backstrap element. I used some WD 40, but haven't cleaned them up much otherwise. It works fine.

Yeah, the Pakistan/Indian repro. handcuff companies are known to poke around this site and "Houdini" sites in order to get ideas for bringing new cuffs to the market.

This looks like their modern attempt at Houdini's "Mirror Challenge Handcuff".

That said, it is a pretty cool handcuff.

there was an old lithograph picture of many cuffs from the 1920's (I think) that Joe tanner once showed or sent out. this type of cuff was among them. I would suggest it's from the late 1800's

I think it has at least 5 features of a very early cuff and non of an Indian repro.

..just when you think you've seen and/or read all about British Darbies, something like this appears out of nowhere.

This is what keeps this hobby so interesting.
