#1So this is the new forum, huh? Feels strange, after so many years. Anyway, here goes.
Photos from our recent trip to Venice. There is an exhibition that opened just in 2018 in downtown Venice, 500 W of St. Mark's square. Even though most of the items are reproductions, it's actually pretty well done and fairly large (4 floors). I pointed out that they should indicate whether an item is authentic or modern; with some items like the iron maiden or the studded chair they actually said (!) "fake", i.e. not really used ever, but 100-300 year old dramatizations to show the late middle ages. Yet in the next sentence they say " ... it was traditionally used ..." .
Interestingly, a waist belt / collar combination resembles one I bid on some 3 years ago; the auction was canceled, and I never got any response from the seller as to why.
Of course there's also the modern Indian darby. My guess is that 80% are reproductions, but in terms of museums (if you want to call it that), I've seen much worse.

I could not find any antique cuffs for sale, nor any type that I could identify as "typical Italian" cuffs.
Venice was built on 118 islands, has about 50.000 inhabitants today and is hit by 30 million tourists annually. If you go there, don't come on a cruise, but spend a few nights. The cruise people are what ruins Venice.
