Peerless 1915 short link

Hi i have just brought a pair of peerless 1915s have not recived them yet but have a picture that seems to look like the have a single link but not the normal long one but rather a short like that would normally be found as a pair of links. Has anyone seen this before of have any idea of how they would of came to be like this. Im not sure if it would be factory mistake perhaps or a later repair maybe when the long single link was no longer to hand. Any help much appreciated cheers martin

So they arrived today and it would seem the link has been redone at a later point so I assume at some point the chain was broken and replaced. Shame its not factory but still interesting to have a pair diffrent with a little character.

Thanks for the photos of the link. Would it be possible to get a close-up of the front & back of both cuffs showing all the markings? Just something I would like to log in my database.

They have none apart from the trade mark and the usal peerless on both bows and patent 1912 1915 on the back. Did see in the handcuff book a pair of cuffs that look like peerless but they were darley they had one small link so maybe somebody was experimenting who knows.

What you have is a Peerless Model 1 Version 5 set.

The first pair you show (top of each photo) is a Peerless Model 1 Version 2, that has the early Peerless logo before they had their logo registered. TRADE on top and MARK below. This is the only version that had this early logo. This logo was used on the Peerless stationary long after they added REGISTERED to their logo.
Here is a pair of the Model 1 Version 2 that never left the Smith & Wesson factory and also shown is a portion of a 1924 Peerless letter still using the early peerless logo.

The second (middle) pair you show, with serial number 90263, is a Peerless Model 2 Version 6 with the stamping changed to PAT.-PAT. PENDING. 
This pair with serial number 90263, is part of the June 1929 contract between Peerless and Smith & Wesson. According to the Smith & Wesson document of the Schedule of Delivery to Peerless Handcuff Co., serial number 90263 was manufactured and delivered to Peerless between May 1 and May 30, 1930.
Here is an interesting example of the Model 2 Version 6 that was found in the Smith & Wesson factory that I believe was used as a "Sample" to show the new stamping of the rear cheek of the left & right hand cuffs:

Note that these are 2 left hand cuffs joined together by 2-chain links (no right hand cuff). Also notice the modified Peerless box they were found in.
