Burt cuffs

Hi I have a pair of Darby cuffs that belonged a relative they are the same as a old pair of hiatts apart from the fact that were it would say hiatt these just say burt and it is stamped as hiatt would of been not scratched on later so does anybody know or hear of cuffs stamped burt before? Thanks

Are you sure it says "burt".  The inscription "best' is very common.

Could we get a close up pic of the engraved name, please?

Yep sure it's not best they have hard on the side but nowhere do it say best heres some pics

They certainly say "BURT".  Very interesting markings on the bottom of the lock tube as well.

I wonder if I have the only pair known I mean surly there must have been more than one pair made but maybe only few and the others are lost to time or I wonder if a worker decided to personalise for himself or a family member I wish I knew how to find out

My observations, as a novice collector of darby handcuffs;
The word Burt is in the location where Hiatt cuffs are marked "Hiatt". The "warranted wrought" and "hard" are also commonly found on Hiatt handcuffs. However, the font of the "warranted wrought" appears different.  The pattern on the end of the lock cylinder is unusually ornate.
Also, the keys look similar in style to a pair of JG1952 darby handcuffs in my collection.
It is quite a confounding mystery! Where did you acquire them?

I got them from my grandfather and he got them from his uncle who was a sergeant in Wiltshire I would assume around ww2.

Going for a bump on the off chance somebody sees the post that missed it and has into. Would these cuffs have been maybe stamped by say a hiatt worker maybe for a relative with his name being burt or is a small company been missed out of history ?
