Since we’ve been discussing swing-thru cuffs with improved security in recent threads, I thought I’d mention a Hiatt spinoff company called Latrobe. The Latrobe LTH handcuff is made entirely out of hardened aluminum, making these cuffs extremely lightweight. Outwardly they may appear as pretty standard swung-thru cuffs, but looks can be deceiving. The non-standard key with its double opposing bits operates a lever tumbler lock with a nifty added security feature: in order to disengage the double-lock or to open the singly locked cuffs, the spring loaded swivels must be pulled out of the lock case and held while turning the key. Activating the double-locks also requires that the swivel be pulled out before pressing the finger plungers on the edge of the lock case. This has the benefit of preventing the cuffs from being inadvertently double-locked while applying them to a struggling suspect.

I actually carried these cuffs to work over my last several months, and liked how they weighed next to nothing yet were substantially more secure than the standard cuffs issued by the firm I had worked for.

Eventually the Latrobe LTH patent was bought out by Toye, Kenning & Spencer and produced as the TKS Patrol Type E handcuff.

There is a pair of TKS Patrol Type E Handcuffs for sale on eBay HERE.

These cuffs come with the carton and paperwork and are being sold as ‘new’. They do, however, have obvious surface scratches, scuffs, and certainly didn’t arrive from the factory with these.

With a $90 starting bid and $7.20 for shipping in the USA, I’m not surprised that this auction received no bids with only 3 days left before auction close. Anyone interested in these might do well to add to them to their watch list and see if he relists them with a lower opening bid since these cuffs are obviously used.
 

Very cool cuffs. Whats the inside measurement of them? Are they the same as say a pair of s&w 100's?

They seem to be the same size as the S&W Model 100 and are definitely not small as were the numerous Peerless clones that were made in Spain.

I’m still scratching my head over the glued in plastic inserts spoke of in the this thread. My cuffs don’t have anything plastic or glued on them, otherwise I wouldn’t have bought them as I don’t care for such.

Man id like to get them but they are a bit rich for me after we just had christmas and all. Thanks for sharing them tho, i find them very fascinating to say the least. Hopefully they go to a nice home

Hopefully you’ll find an example in better condition when you’ve recovered from the holiday spending. Besides being very lightweight and rust proof, the nice thing about aluminum cuffs is that there is no nickel plating to flake off. I can’t tell you how many vintage cuffs I sold on eBay for crumbs because of a tiny speck of plating.

These cuff use to come up on uk bay all the time for like £15 so i would not pay much more because or though they come up less now they will come up at some point. They almost always have box 2 keys and paperwork they are a odd cuff that is different and lock like a toy as the teech are large but they are secure once on.

Even singly locked these cuffs are pretty secure since the split ratchet requires that you either need the tuning fork style shim or 2 shims in order to release the ratchet.

Here in the states I’d occasionally see them on eBay (USA) in new to like-new condition starting at about half of what this seller is asking, though I haven’t checked availability/pricing in quite some time.

 My only peeve is that I would have preferred the rare circular links as featured on the pricier SAF Lok in lieu of the common ovular design.
