They are of the early production. Smith & Wesson started their own line of handcuffs in 1952 and did not assign model numbers to them until 1958. I would say you have an early pre-model 90 manufactured between 1952 & 1958. Smith & Wesson did not record serial numbers on handcuffs like Peerless does.
Here is a 3-digit pre-model 90.

Interesting early S&W Pre-Model 90. I cannot give you a definitive answer why the serial number (appears to be 1164) is stamped on the front (keyway side) of the left cuff. It could have been a mistake, not paying attention or on purpose, by the worker assigned to stamping serial numbers that day.
This is the only other pre m-90 I have seen besides the one I have with serial number 591 with the S&W logo on both front cuffs & the address on both rear cuffs.
I have serial number 1933 (769 numbers after your serial number) and it has the S&W logo on the right front cuff , the address on the left front cuff and the serial number stamped on the right rear cuff. This appears to be the normal for the Model 90 cuffs.
I'm glad you shared your cuffs because I have been interested in seeing early Pre M-90's between serial number 591 & 1933, the two lowest numbers I have, and see how they were stamped.

#7I'm glad I was able to help with showing the configuration between serials , I wonder when smith actually went to the single logo apparently even at 1164 they still made the double logo .

#8I wonder when smith started making the single logo apparently even at 1164 they made double logos on their cuffs , the serial on the front could of been a transition example to the single logo 90 maybe it could of been a prototype and they could of stamped it on the front to see how it looked and changed it back to stamping it in the usual place who knows this could be the last pair of cuffs I have that smith made with double logos before the single logo 90s because your serial is just over 700 more than mine and it shows the single logo so in between that 700 they changed.dltvette wrote:Posted this on your previous post.Click to expand...
