Unusual pair of Haitt plugs

Anyone one have any information on these cuffs

Oh wow! First I have ever seen this design of a plug cuff! Really nice find, Fred! I wonder if they were made to clamp over a bar or something similar? Like a rail wehere you could join multiple people in a line? But, for a design like that, I would thing a round opening would have been more ideal, so you could just use a round bar of steel as the railing? Very intriguing!

My guess would be that the additional sections would be to affix an end lock through to join them as a pair of handcuffs.

They are super nice. My guess is that the small end was for a chain.
I remember seeing the ones in Mark's picture.  That picture also shows a super rare plug 8 with loop for a belt.

If used individually like a "cap wrist lock" you could release one person from the middle of a gang chain.

I was lucky enough to get these in March 2015. The small figure 8 cuffs are clearly designed to be used on a gang chain but the work involved compared to the normal Cap Wrist Locks is huge so I do not think many were made.

Chris  - Is your pair marked? For that matter is the figure 8 with the belt loop marked?

Joe the belt loop plug 8 that's in my collection is marked Hiatt Hard and 15 the Hiatt stamp is almost the same as on the Unusual plug 8

The belt loop plug 8 that I have, that I bought from Chris quite a few years ago, is marked Griffin.
I think all of the cuffs we are talking about in this stream are pretty old, early 19th century.

Yes they are all marked Hiatt. Currently travelling through Spain and return home in about 3 weeks. Will get some photos done when we return.
