KNOWN ER's

Over the years John Bushey had been keeping track of the known ER handcuffs, leg irons and shackles.  Several years ago I took over the task.  The idea was to gather a data base and see if any information could be made by the markings.  Looking at the small samples we have, it looks like the handcuffs may have been numbered in series of manufacture.  The leg iron markings has such a small sample, being very rare, that a pattern can not be determined.  

I thought I would publish this information with the names of the owners removed since that was the original agreement.  As new information was obtained I sent a new copy to the owners that I have an email address for.  There are two collectors that I don't have an address and if anyone has an ER and does not see it on the list please contact me at ronspitz@msn.com 

This is the first time this list has been published and I hope the information will be useful.

I don't have any, just a McColl repro. But maybe we could add McKenzie Mitts, Palmers and Oregon Boots to the list?

Could you please blur your pictures a little.  It makes most of the others look rough.  But really, fantastic condition and the markings are so clear and large.  

I was asked if we were keeping records of ER locks and the answer is no, there are too many of them and most do not have markings other than the ER stamp.  

The main reason for the cuffs was to start a data base of the markings and it seems like the cuffs may be marked is numerical sequence.  There are so few leg irons that the markings can not be correlated.  

Thought I might post one large, heavy ER lock marked ER and 6.

Ron,
On your chart you have listed single leg iron groove . What does the word groove mean in the appearance of a single leg iron ? Does it mean that bow is grooved on the out side , something like a trough ? If you have an image that would be great. Thank you so much for posting the list .

It was a surprise That you have never seen them before.Thank you for making my day! Did you get the picture of the cuffs that belonged to Christopher? He always kept them in his showcase in his hallway. I am not sure that they are E.R’ s ,think

Thank you for the nice words about the condition on my ER. And yes, the markings are actually very crispy and the surface is smooth..

That's a really nice ER padlock got got there! And the key is in the very same design as for the restraints.
