Solid Key Hiatt 1960

Hey guys! Hope everyone is well.  I grabbed an interesting, and what i understand to be a very rare cuff, for my collection, this last week. I have it in hand in Illinois, all of the way from Ireland! I was able to work a deal with the gentleman who owned it. You can see in the pics, its a normal Hiatt 1960 cuff body. It has the short arms. Its normal....except for the key it uses. This one uses a solid key, similar but much larger than a Model 1 or 2 Peerless key. I had no idea, how rare this cuff actually is! Mine are marked the same as the ones that were talked about on this forum, back in 2008. The have Hiatts 1960 on the one side of the cuffs and "British Made Mark 2", on the other cuff. No other markings or serial numbers on them. But as mentioned in the posts from 2008, these are ridiculously easy to pick open, with pretty much anything that you can fit in the key hole. They also have a lot of room to be shimmed. Since these are single lock only, that would make for a really bad combination!  How many of these have we turned up since the post in 2008? Does anyone know or have a similar cuff in their collection? With how easy they are go pick open, these surely wouldnt have been used by law enforcement....would they?

I know of 2 other Sets. One in my collection and one that I traded to another collector.

Yours may be a little rougher than mine, Fred. But, at least you have a set! I knew this was a rare cuff, but i didnt realize how rare they truly are! With the ones I have seen pics of and heard of, im guessing we are still under 5, total, so far.

I have only seen 3 or 4 in other collections 
I agree that these are rare and not found outside of advanced collections

There are swivel variations between some of these cuffs.
Not enough difference to say they are different models as perhaps Hiatt placed orders for the swivels from a chain company or similar.

Ive noticed the swivel variations on several other Hiatt cuffs. The 1970 Model had a few variations on swivels as well.

I have a Reliant and I am quite pleased to have it for the collection, but it is has to be the worst cuff that Hiatt ever made. 
Not many were sold and it was not on the market very long.

Its action of the cuff is terrible.  I am amused to read on the box that it can be "flicked" on to the prisoner's wrists.  My example is essentially unused, but it is the action is so poor it is difficult to close the cuff. It would be impossible to "flick" it onto anyone's wrist.

I do not have a Reliant Cuff, yet. Its on the shopping list, if any were to turn up! LOL! There are a lot of vintage cuffs on my shopping list.

Collecting handcuffs has been a life long quest for me....as Bushey and I would try and justify collecting  we would convince ourselves we're in it for the long haul..... sometimes we would have to pass on a piece sometimes a piece would passed though our hands sometimes we paid to much sometimes we paid to little but that is the fun part sometimes its the frustrating part but its all part of collecting..... Richard I wish you luck on your quest and may you fill you wish list!! I know I'm still working on mine...in it for the long haul
