Judd handcuffs/leg irons. Where to look?

Hi. I have a standing search with eBay for Judd handcuffs and Judd leg irons. For a few months nothing has popped up. I also search on PicClick.com. These seem to be rare but I was told they often show up in flea markets in the US. If they do show up, do you think they are going to be quite expensive? I am on a budget and if they are always going to be expensive then I won't exert that much more effort.

Ken, they really aren’t all that rare. Do scan through everything on an “antique handcuffs“ search every couple days. Many times the seller won’t include Judd in the listing because they don’t know it’s important or don’t see it.

Flea markets are usually pretty unproductive in my experience except for the huge Brimfield mart twice a year outside Worcester Massachusetts. Do try to work it into your plans if you’re cruising the US.

My best pickings have been the gunshows.

Come to think of it, I have a pair of leg irons in my for sale stuff, with a cranky key. Let me know off forum if you want more info.

The Judd Tri-key cuffs have always been an issue with me. Not in finding them, i have bought 4 different leg irons, in the past. The issue is finding one that fully works! I just sent one back for a refund on Ebay. I will report back if it pops back up on Ebay, to warn you about it. The cuffs do not work. One side is stuck on double lock and the other side is stuck on single lock. Both key mechs have been stripped out and they do not come with a key. I am still searching for a working leg iron for my collection. All of the ones i have gotten in the past have been from $175 to $250. This last one was $175. A big let down to get them and find out they dont work. I do have one Judd handcuff in my collection, that fully works and one leg iron that works, but has been horribly repaired at some point in its life.

One thing i have learned on my search for working cuffs made by Mattatuck: They all have complicated, spring loaded, Lock mechanisms. They have parts that can go bad and they are easy to damage. Tread carefully and ask a lot of questions before you buy one. If you buy from someone on the forum, they know wht it is and how it supposed to operate. So, im certain yo will get a good one. Buying from others online, can be a gamble. One tip to search for them, is many people list them as "Mattatuck Leg Irons or Legcuffs." They often leave the model name of "Judd" out of their ads. I wish you the best on your search! Also, make sure you get one with a key! Ian McColl who supplies a lot of cuff keys, has posted on FB that he is currently out of The Judd/Maltby Tri-keys. He said that he would need 10 keys pre-sold before doing another run. I would be good for about 4 of those keys right now, if we can pre-sell the other 6.  Just a heads up to keep in mind.

You want 4 from Ian and I'll take 1 more. I got 1 from him. That brings us up to 5. Maybe we can ask if others want to put in an order.
I was looking on eBay and I didn't see anything. I will definitely ask you to identify them if they do show up on eBay because I will get a notification if the word Judd appears.
I will look for the Mattatuck descriptions and fully look at the picture to see what they really are.

Put me down for two keys if that will help Ian make another batch. The problem with Judd’s is when the key is not fully inserted and turned it will round the post or the inside of the key and then the cuff no longer functions.

looks like we are up to 7. That is a great start! We should be able to pre-sell 3 more in little time, then present that to Ian. Awesome! I know the Judd's i sent back have not arrived to the seller, yet. I will post the link, if he decides to relist them. I check Evil-Bay, daily on a number of searches. No worries. Why Mattatuck would have designed a system like they did, i beyond me? Is fragile, at best. I have a pair of Maltby cuffs in the collection that work flawlessly! Very happy to have obtained those. If anyone else want to pre-order a Judd/Maltby Tri-Key, speak up and add yourself to the growing list. Looking for at least 3 more buyers. Im not sure on price for the keys, yet. Perhaps Ian will chime in soon and fill in the blanks for us?

How much are keys? I'd consider to put in a request to help everyone out depending on the price.

Heads up to anyone looking for a set of Judd Leg Irons. The guy i got the set from that did not work, has them re-listed on Ebay. Do not buy these! His add even says they work. They do not work! The pics of the cuffs, have the swing arms in exactly the same position they were in when they left my hands. You are very welcome. Glad to help out where I can. I am just shocked that this guy is going to try to resell them, saying they work. I had to go through Ebay to do the return. He will end up giving a refund to whomever buys these again. Im still looking for one in good shape that works, fully, for my collection. I will send you a link to the 2nd Judd Leg Iron I find.
