Powell nipper

I came across this Powell nipper serial no. 542 and does any one know who many of these were actually made?

The number stamped on this nipper appears to be 648 if I am reading it correctly. Is there another # on it?

The only number is 542......there are no others not even patent dates.

Thanks Spencer.  Mine has number 598.  These seem to be extremely rare and I doubt that these serial numbers indicate that over 500 were made.  Without any other known numbers it might be they started serial numbers with the number 500. If any other collectors have one of these please post it's serial number.

The serial number on mine is 695.
