Cuff of the Day for April 9. Boxes, lots and lots of boxes.

This is the Cuff of the Day stream. Today we feature cuffs with their original box (or at least a box that matches).
If you don't have a box, but have a cuff you like, post a picture and we will imagine the box.

I will start with a series of Tower boxes representing three eras.  The original Tower & Lyon company, the Union Hardware company which purchased Tower near the turn of the 20th century and the Foth company which continued the Tower line after it was dropped by Union Hardware.    I can't actually claim that any of the boxes are original with the cuffs shown, but they were all purchased with the respective box and the all look nice together.

Thank you Joe for making our version of Boxing Day.
I am particularly keen on this subject as the original boxes never fare as well as the handcuffs contained within.
I have some on the rare side that I will post later.

My first entry is not all that old and perhaps not so rare but I have not seen many large logo S&W boxes.
I am also fond of lightweight cuffs so this photo has a double purpose.

Ah, back in the game. I didn't have a Darby to post. I used to have a Derby hat, viewed a Kentucky Derby, but no Darby.
I do have boxes.
First let me state, Smith & Wesson never (very rarely) discarded anything useable. 
After discontinuing the manufacture of handcuffs for the Peerless Handcuff Company in November of 1940, they still had at least one 
Peerless box left over in the factory in 1952 when S&W started manufacturing their own line of Handcuffs.
This box with this example of S&W Handcuffs with serial number 591 was found in the S&W factory by Roy Jinks, S&W Historian, and remained 
in his collection until I acquired them from him.
Notice, it is a Peerless box with a SMITH & WESSON, pasted on label, over PEERLESS, on the end label of the box and on the instruction label 
on the inside of the box. This early 3-digit serial number was probably placed in this repurposed box before having their own S&W boxes.
Also notice, the box was for a Blued pair of Peerless handcuffs. (Like I said, Nothing Thrown Out).
This is one of my most interesting boxes in my collection.

I've never seen a Maltby box before, very cool!

I only have a few boxes for antique cuffs but a great number for swing-around cuffs like S&W and Perrless. The modern are all stuffed in a big box in the attic. As I'm not interested in modern cuffs, I only show my old ones and three vintage Peerless.

Here are a couple (poor condition) unlabeled early Peerless Boxes as found with Peerless cuffs (Patent Model & Model 2 Version 3) in the Smith & Wesson Factory.

I actually have 2 Maltby boxes.

Fortunately, this minty pair with double rows of teeth came with its box too.

Wow Mark, Just wow. A Fat Double Row Maltby, in pristine unused condition with its original box & original key. I am truly blown away. I thought that I was lucky to find one that had to be sent out for repair and that took me years to find.

Great examples of some really old boxes! All of the older boxes I have, have already been posted by others. I do collect boxes for cuffs, when i find them. My goal for any cuff is to find one pristine in the box. No so easy with the older cuffs, as you all know! I will share this box that interested me when I got it. The cuffs are standard Spanish made cuffs. Probably made by Alcyon, as they sold under a lot of different names. But, look at the taped on label on the end of the box. George Cake Co. The American maker of cuffs in Berkeley, Ca. The folded over part at the left hand top of the label says, "The." This raises the question, was Cake a distributor of foreign cuffs in the states? And if he was, what are the chances of Cake's own cuffs being made by a Spanish company? Underneath the taped on label you can see this is a standard Spanish box for the cuffs.

Richard I don’t believe George Cake manufactured anything. He was a jobber and distributor. Big time police equipment distributor when I was a young ‘un.

A few of the other cuffs in boxes in my collection. As you can see, I've run out of space for the collection! LOL!

We know that Tower made a "Pinkerton" cuff which was lighter in weight that their more common handcuff.
The design was copied later by one or more manufacturers.
The cuffs were never marked with the manufacturers name nor was the box marked.
I do not have any information on who made these.

Just found some more boxes from an article that I once hoped to write for the Handcuff Annual.
Most are mine but not all.

Hiatt Peerless box may belong to Fred.

I am particularly fond of the Eisaman - Rome Nipper and box.
There is another example that has been on eBay for a few months and his claim is "The box is also the finest example known.  I have seen three boxes over my 40 years of collecting,  and this is by far the best example."
I know the seller and he is quite knowledgeable in the cuff world, but in this case, I beg to differ!

I eventually acquired the boxes from Stan Willis.

Very nice boxes! I especially like the Pratt box as I have never seen it before.
