Cuff of the Day for April 15. Cuffs from Latin America

As we continue our trip around the world, today we visit Latin American.   
Argentina is known for quite a few cuffs, but I know of only a few associated with other countries.
There are a number of imports from Europe or the USA imprinted for agencies in various Central or Southern American countries.

What do you have in your collection?

I will start with a classic.  An Alcatraz handcuff.

I have one of the Halcon Industries Adjustable Darby Cuffs. Homemade key that came with the cuffs.

Argentina for some reason is the leader in handcuff manufacturing in South America.  One would expect Brazil to produce cuffs due to its huge land mass and population, but I know of no examples from this country.
Many of the Argentinian models emulate the German and French styles and use the same style keys. This may be attributed to those who immigrated here after the war and shared the same designs.

These are some of the ones I can post now.  I will try to post more once I find the box that I put away.
Nothing too exciting that I recall.

In another blog, I have shown some of the Los Angeles made Goncz cuffs contracted and used by the Peruvian Police (PNP) 

The French Transportation series of leg irons were made to secure about 56,000 prisoners destined by a jury to be relocated to the prison complex at Île du Diable (Devil's Island), French Guiana from 1852 to 1938.
The prisons were closed about a decade later.
The lock is simply a screw with a side peg and the key has a notch to slip over the peg to turn it.
I have 3 different sizes of these and one (not pictured) is much more robust.

Those were all made for the transportation of said prisoners? I have one and did not know that! Mine are a bit thicker too. I had read or seen somewhere where they would have been made by Rivolier. Do you know if that is true? I have no idea where i read or seen it, at? Too many years ago.

I have also been told tat Rivolier made these and it stands to reason that they would.
They made a more modern looking pair in later years which utilizes the same screw/lock concept.

Well, here is my contribution of really crappy cuffs from Argentine.  If Spanish cuffs are crappy, these are even worse.
These are cuffs I almost could give away for free. Collected at a time before long before I knew what real cuffs are...

Joe, please! Pick another topic with more interesting cuffs for tomorrow, I think all of us are much more interested in what treasures are hiding in our collections.
Swing-around cuffs are so dull.

Thanks! I think all of us are more fascinated by the rare ones. Or cuffs with certain stories. The interesting and odd stuff people have hidden in their drawers, not bulk cuffs. That's my opinion but other might differ.

To me, i think the forum should, and does, cover all cuffs. We need to present and identify any cuffs for future generations of collectors, who may look through these pages after we are gone. Assuming of course, Joe passes the torch onto someone, at some point. These archives are a thorough journey through restraints. The strange and exotic to the mass produced.

Thanks! I believe most members here are most interested in the odd and rarer cuffs people are hiding in their drawers. Just talking for myself, I'm surprised by all treasures posted here and they are very interesting to see. Bulk cuffs and most swing-around cuffs, we already know of. Other collectors may have different view.

Sorry for double postings, the system is a little slow...

I for one like those with a wow factor.
Not too much ohhhs and ahhhs here but when one starts a collection, these are the starting point.
You can actually get a cuff for your birthday or at Christmas with these.

Here is an Argentinian that does not seem to be on this page already.

A cuff from South America, forgot exactly where. It's very light, unfortunately one lock is missing.

I am almost certain that these are "Copies" of Spanish "HALCON" Cuffs that were made in Argentina . ( Obviously !) However , the Argentines also may have Copied the German equivalents and the Hiatt's types! I  have several and i'm collecting as many as possible!
