Cuff of the Day for April 28. Chain Cuffs

Today's topic is a bit off beat.   Let us look on handcuffs and other restraints that are based upon chain.
Simple chains (think Siberian chain escape), bicycle chains, and various others.

I will start with an American classic, the Burdick chain handcuff.  Mine is missing its handle.

The Italian Carabinieri chain comes to mind. The other one is a chain marked "Franz Leicher München" (Munich).

Way to go Gordon that is a nice group you have, I knew that at least one other collector had a Wood “junior “ but didn’t know it was you.

The chain cuff that I have that hasnt been shown yet, would be my Jang Cha "Ten" Chain Cuffs. These can be configured to be handcuffs, leg irons, a handcuff connected to an immovable object, a come-along and so on. Very versatile little restraint, but kind of a pain to configure and apply. Like most Chinese things, not very well made.  The locking mechanism, works the same as the replica H&R Super Cuffs from China. Same key for some of the versions China makes and sells. Each of the lock tubes in the chain can be unlocked and reconfigured elsewhere on the chain. Allowing for many different combinations.

Lars  Some collectors call it a Woods Junior It was the first chain by Mr. Woods. John did extensive research
on the Wood chain and verified this. There is no patent paper ( found ) for this. Unfortunately  John's work
never was finished in time to be released to collectors.

How many of those Wood's Jr cuffs are known to be out there? I've only seen one other besides yours (at the last Lancaster Lock Show). They have to be as rare or almost as rare as the leg irons. 

By the way, you have an awesome Woods collection.

Thank you  I have seen several of them at the Indy shows, not nearly rare as the leg chain. The thing is nobody
ever knew for sure what it was. Just guesses. BTW to answer your question about the number of Fisher thumb
cuffs made, the estimate is 100, both brass and steel. I just recently found the letter that mentioned Fisher.
It also said that he was a magician and claimed that he only did his own original magic tricks. 

The predecessor to the regular Woods or prepatent model is indeed rare.
I bought one around the same time that Stan did.
I do not know who bought his.
I believe I can count about 5 of those that are known.
