Cuff of the Day for May 1. Irish 8 Handcuffs

Another month had come.  Happy May Day everyone.
The theme for today is Irish 8 handcuffs.  This modified style of Darby cuffs was the standard cuff of Ireland.  Although
it is likely that most of them were made in Birmingham and simply sold in Ireland.

I will start with an Irish 8 sold by John Ireland of Ellis's Quay Dublin.  John Ireland was a major supplier of goods to the military and police.
The manufacturer of the cuff is not known, but it looks very much like a Hiatt Irish 8.

My first Irish 8 is the one I believe to be the oldest in my collection. The only stamping to the cuff is "HARD" and "W". The key is stamped "W" and "T".

I'm not sure if this one fit in the topic but I guess there will be no special topic for for "side snap eight" as it would be very short.
My set is unfortunately unmarked but my guess of maker is Hiatt.

A few more Irish 8 but of less significance.

This Irish 8 is marked W. Cohen with the date 1883.

Irish 8s. Lets dig in the files I see what I have. Start out with one I originally thought was from the U.K., but later learned that they may have been made in Ireland. The company stamp on them is BH&G. This also has the original key, still.

I also have an Irish 8 that is marked by Froggatt.

This one is a Hiatt twist on the traditional Irish 8 design from the U.K. Its known as a "Solid State 8." Opens on both end, instead of on one end.

This cuff  is not particularly pretty, but it is likely the rarest of the Irish 8 cuffs in the collection.
It was made by T & A Longmore.   Longmore was the company that bought Nichols when James Nichols died.
Only a few cuffs with the Longmore name are known.

I will take a small liberty in posting this pic.
Typically an Irish 8 is a Figure 8 that snaps shut without the use of a key.
They are usually used by Irish police and maybe their military.

Other Figure 8's are similar in design but require a key to lock or unlock them.
Maybe there will be a Figure 8 blog down the line and I will repost these and some others.
