What happened to this collection?

I just got the very first issue of Genii Magazine from September 1936, and in a column by L.O. Gunn, ( still looking for info on him) was this mention of his collection. But it doesn’t say which museum. Any ideas?

Just an uneducated guess.

Is it possible that those items eventually ended up as the nucleus for the CHIPS museum in Sacramento?

The CA Highway Patrol Collection is part of the Auburn Collection.  There are posts in the old Forum with pictures if you are interested.   I had the chance to visit the 
museum and actually inspect each item.  There was also a bag of cuff that was never displayed but a search of the area including back rooms, led us to the conclusion that they were missing even though the officer said they were there about a month before my visit.

Apparently he also donated some magic memorabilia to a museum in the same LA area, but that’s all the article said. A few months later he moved to the Midwest. Remember, this was in 1936, and they didn’t provide much more information. Some Articles would say they would be continued in the next issue but weren’t, which makes it tough to fully research. It was the first year the magazine came out, so it’s understandable that they had a few hiccups. Maybe a search of local papers would turn up something. I just wish they would have named the museum.

If they ended up in the Midwest then check out the possibility that they ended up in the J.M. Davis museum which is primarily firearms but does have some restraints also.

The Davis museum is a great place to visit.  As far as handcuffs, they have the Gill collection which is well worth while to see.  Again, pictures of the collection have been posted several years ago, here in the Forum.

The S.A.M. Museum didn't open until 1971...so that wasn't the museum, at the time of the 1936 article.

BTW - The Houdini Collection of Handcuffs (i.e. Russian Manacle) however, DID eventually end up in the SAM Museum....

Bess had given the display boards & cuffs to Len....and it was he who eventually donated them to the SAM Museum. 

But back on topic - I am unclear what "museum" in Los Angels that Len had placed his temporary display of Houdini memorabilia & handcuffs.

Len's cuffs all stayed in Southern California.
