Cuff of the Day for May 21. Italy

Today we explore the cuffs of Italy.  Italy has not been a major producer, but they have made some very interesting handcuffs.

I will start with a couple "Bagno" style handcuffs.   These are essentially large thumbscrews that lock with a padlock.  Crude, but effective.

I purchased these on eBay a while back, and if I can remember correctly they are Italian WW2 military handcuffs. The triangle link is something I'd never seen before and the added circular link is probably there to attach to a chain to handle a number of prisoners at once. There is a push-button double lock similar to Peerless and Smith & Wesson. Note the odd propeller-shaped key.

These Italian cuffs were posted a few weeks ago, but here they are again.   I don't know much about them, but they were  purchased from an Italian dealer.

Bomissa were one of Italy’s most prominent handcuff manufacturers. This is their Transportation Kit which has numerous different combinations possible.

The high security Bomissa Handcuffs. They double lock with the key and have the attachment so they can be linked to the Transport Restraint kit,

An early Italian Handcuff with double bitted off set key. They do not double lock and can be picked open relatively easily by applying pressure on the bow and using a single pick each pawl can be lifted alternatively. The bow will open one notch at a time.

I will add another version of the Triangle Link Cuff that Glenn shared with us. This is the same cuff and key, with just a single round center link. WWII era cuff.
One to the Italian Twist Chain Cuffs. I have this longer set, that I originally thought may have been a leg iron? I have some documentation, from an Italian news article on restraints, that says this was a double chain cuff. A way to restrict the hands of two people and keep them linked together for transport purposes. The locks on this set, are not the original locks. This is a set of magician's gaffed locks. I didnt know they were gaffed when I got them. I sent the locks to Ian McColl, when I got them, for him to make a working key for them. He did make a key and it works great! But, he also showed me where the cover of the lock had a small corner bent to allow a small pick to be inserted to push back the locking bolt and release the shackle of the padlocks!
Last, I have a set of Twisted Chain restraints. As you can imagine, they hurt when applied around one's wrist and twisted. They do their job of a leader a prisoner, quite well!

I need one of the split flag, staggered key cuffs you guys have. Ive never seen that!

I suppose I can add in a Modern Cuff. Two different Sile New Police models of chained cuffs. One with a Peerless style lock set up and one with a S&W style lock set up. Both use a push pin double lock, on spine of the cuffs.

Pretty sure the $ cuffs are italian, but don't want to start a debate. Also the Bagno which is a work of art in this form.

Paul, I share your belife that the Dollar cuff is actually made in Italy.
Please let me add the flat key version.

Hello everyone, today I get a Italian Handcuff like the cuff from John Lauher. But my cuff have two buttons to pull for opening. On the cuff is the number "28" - a serial number?

Very interesting to see a variation on the Italian cuff Mr. Handcuff.  Did yours come from Italy?

Hello Joe, yes I have bought it last week in Italy. The seller says it was used by military and it is very rare. Regards, Axel
