Cuff of the Day for May 26. British Nippers

Nipper Madness Begins.   A series of days devoted to nippers, grips and come-alongs.   
24th Sunday - The US Patent List.  How many can we find?
25th Monday -  US Nippers - Not on the patent list, odd balls and copies.
26th Tuesday - British Nippers
27th Wednesday -  Nippers from Europe and the Rest of the World
28th Thursday - Cuffs of Asia

31st    Sunday - Hiatt

I plan to suspend my Cuff of the Day postings at the end of May.   We have gone through most topics and people are
getting busier.  But I encourage everyone else to start their own topics using a similar format.    I am somewhat out of ideas.

Today we explore British Nippers.
I will start with my favorite Hiatt nipper.   It is a locking nipper.  When closed the spring action in the handle is so strong that it requires the action of an unlocking screw to push the cuff open. It is not really a very practical item, since it takes quite a bit a strength to just close the cuff.  In practice it would have been very difficult to use.

Joe that is a real rarity, a locking nipper.

Hiatt Steel

This one is very similar to a Hiatt Steel Nipper, but is marked as J. Gate No. 109. I have never heard of J. Gate and do not know if it is the company that made these or if it was marked by the user of them? Im assuming company, since it has a "Model No. of 109" stamped in them. I tried to find them to get a pic of the stamps, but i do not know where in my collection they are at the moment! LOL! I will keep looking for them, as time allows today.
